New Movies'Films'Tv Series????
Oct 27 2009, 11:53 AM EDT | Post edited: Oct 27 2009, 11:53 AM EDT
Does anyone know if there are going to be new forth coming Tudor/ Elizabethan films or tv series coming out soon?

I have been searching the web trying to find articles on The Constant Princess, The Boleyn Inheritance and Innocent Traitor, which were all reputed to be getting made into films or a tv series, does anyone know any thing about this?

I love this period of history, and love to watch films and series about this period, but there is not that many around. I dont like films that were made years and years ago, the farthest back I can go is probably late 80's, I hate things made in the 70's and before that, so does anyone know of any films/series, set in this period made after the 80's?

I've seen Lady Jane, Elizabeth, Shakespeare In Love, The Other Boleyn Girl, any other suggestions?

Hey mrsg, good to see on the wiki again. There is a page about movies : http://tudorswiki.sho.com/page/MOVIES+about+the+Tudors

but you are right there isn't many modern movies about the Tudors except the ones you mentioned. There was talk of a Mary Queen of Scots movie with Scarlett Johannsen but from what I can gather, this has been shelved. Have you seen the BBC series "The Virgin Queen"?

I have a few suggestions but they are not new movies, and most are about other European subjects:

- Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (loosely based on Shakespearean Hamlet but I vaguely recall it being set in the late 15th cent), hilarious and often confusing!
- Dangerous Beauty (based on the story of Veronica Franco, courtesan/poet during the mid 1550s Venice) love story, very sweet chick flick but excellent costumes!!!
- Queen Margot (French 'La Reine Margot', based on a partly fictional novel by Dumas about Catheirne de Medici's daughter princess Margot and her role during the St Bartholemew's Day Massacre), beautifully made, superb acting.
- Los Borgia (Spanish film, I have not seen it but it is about the Borgias, it sounds graphic).
- Juana la Loca (Spanish film, I have yet to see this also - about Catheirne of Aragon's sister)
- Luther (Ralph Fiennes plays the spunky monk)
- The Agony and the Ecstasy (about Pope Julius II, Michaelangelo and the Sistine Chapel)
- Lady Jane (with Helena Bonham-Carter, I have not seen this yet)

Here's a handy list of some Elizabethan films and their dates:

Enjoy the movies!!! I know I do ~ B

Theres already been tons of stuff about Elizabeth, to the point that I want to scream every time I hear her name. Has anyone seen The Twisted Tale of Bloody Mary? Also, I`d just love it if a production company decided to cover the Plantagenets or the Wars of the Roses. Do you find this valuable?

Many years ago (early 1970's) I remember watching a very good drama series on Henry V11 called 'The Shadow of the Tower'. It was made by the BBC and the Canadian actor James Maxwell gave an excellent performance as Henry. I still have the book of the series somewhere.

It`s on youtube, albeit in 10 minute segments, but the whole film is there. Well worth a look.
