Anne Boleyn's Trial

This is an old topic.. but anyway..I was wondering if anyone knew why they didn't have a scene for Anne Boleyn's trial like 'Anne of a Thousand Days'?? I really would have liked to see Natalie perform that scene if it had been put in.. Do you find this valuable?

If they had done it, I'm sure it would have been really good. I remember at the time being glad that they didn't though. I guess because I knew the outcome, and the drama of seeing Anne in the tower trying to prepare herself for death, waiting for the swordsman from Calais. And Henry's relationship with Jane developing, then Anne's execution. They would have had to take time away from those scenes in order to fit the trial in. And they were so moving....it's hard to picture those last couple of episodes without those scenes. Do you find this valuable?

By season 2 we had lost the Duke of Norfolk (Henry Czerny) who took a major part in the trial...plus they had never written in the part of Henry Percy...so the trial would have lost some of its drama. However, Natalie Dormer did speak Anne's words at the trial in the form of her confession to Thomas Cranmer. Do you find this valuable?

They wouldn't have been able to use the part from Anne of a Thousand Days where she speaks with Mark Smeaton at the trial either, i loved that scene too from the movie... and Smeaton was rendered incapable of walking and standing at that stage, the series really blew that out of proportion! Natalie would have performed it to perfection. I was expecting to see it in the series & was surprised it was left out.

This isn't to do with the trial but how did they distract her when they were about to execute her? Did they do the AOTD way where someone made a quick movement at the side and she looked over towards it or was it like in the Tudors where the executioner said "Boy fetch my sword?" and she turned to look where the sword was? Do you mean, was there a distraction, in reality? Eric Ives makes no mention of it in his biography of Anne Boleyn, and he really is the voice of authority on her, and nor does Starkey. Not only that, but Anne was blind-folded, would a distraction be needed? As for contemporary sources, the only ones that I read, state that she died with `godly smiling countenance`. Oh that's unusual. I've seen someone distract her in quite a few tv portrayals so i thought there might have been an element of truth in it. Obviously its just for dramatic effect. Well even if i was blindfolded i would still look around at the executioner or where he would have been. Perhaps that is just me haha. Do we know whether Katherine Howard was blindfolded? Yes, I think all those about to be executed were blindfolded, it was part of the ritual. Poor Jane Gray had to fumble for the block after her blindfold was tied.
I think you`re right about turning around despite the blindfold, it`d be pure instinct.

I have heard that the executioner was so taken back by Annethat he hid his sword in some straw on thescaffold, and when the time came to kill her he yelled " Boy where is my sword?" So she would think she still had a few more moments.. So yeah very much like the tudors.. But I liked how the execution was done in AOTD too.
