"Katherine was clearly a 'no go' area for anyone to fool around with but I think that you are right in suggesting that Henry might well have seen Culpepper as a particular threat. It was clear by then that Henry wasn't going to last that much longer, and for an ambitious courtier, a widowed Katherine would have been a wife well worth having. Henry might have been paranoid enough to suspect that the two of them were plotting to hasten his demise so that they could marry and take power."Yes, well put. Poison, for example was an ever present danger. Anybody in that kind of position of trust had to be squeaky clean and entirely above suspicion. It probably made the alleged betrayal all the harder to take once it came to light. Do you find this valuable? |

Ms Squirrly - Where did you find Thomas Culpepper's age was 27? That sounds about right, but I would love to know your source! (Also, maybe he played doctor with Katheryn when they were young!)

lol maybe the doctor game was played even back then. The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography gives his birth date as circa 1514 and he died in 1541. We have a profile of Culpepper started here : http://tudorswiki.sho.com/page/Thomas+Culpepper Do you find this valuable? |

I had looked at the profile before and I guess I just missed it Frequently his bio just lists his death date. I wonder how they surmised that year. I guess they looked at the siblings' dob's. It also looks like his death did to his parents what Anne Boleyn's death did to hers. Oh yeah, playing doctor ... "I want to be Dr. Butts, hee hee!"
