Hmm, I just realized, maybe we are looking for Torrance too far to the end of season 3? We are looking more towards the end, but perhaps if the director was clever, he somehow snuck Culpepper into the scenes where Anne of Cleves is greeted? Historically, Culpepper was among those who greeted her to England. Do you find this valuable?

I have been looking everywhere for him and no still no sign. When did Culpepper historically enter court? Though doubt they would have it that historically accurate, or would they? Hmmm. Do you find this valuable?

Thomas Culpeper (note the spelling) was a historical person. . You can look him up on the web:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Culpeper
http://www.spiritus-temporis.com/thomas-culpeper/
http://englishhistory.net/tudor/letter13.html

His life gives an actor plenty of scope: rape, murder, betrayal, adultery, torture, beheading, head turning looks... He is the Tutor equivalent of the sexy vampire.

yes we have a historical profile of Culpepper here on the wiki : http://tudorswiki.sho.com/page/Thomas+Culpepper with the basic history of the character.
There is also an interesting speculation that he sexually harassed Katherine Howard on our controversies section here : http://tudorswiki.sho.com/page/Katherine+Howard+Controversies

The sexy vampire angle is an interesting idea!

Woah, I didn't realize they were shooting his execution already! What episode would that probably be? Ep. 5?

I think it's hilarious that he 'enjoyed' being executed!!

It could be only episode 3 or perhaps they don't shoot in exact chronological order? There is still quite a bit to cover, the next wife Catherine Parr and hopefully the story of Anne Askew...the death of Charles Brandon...and of course Henry's death too. And who knows what kind of fictional embellishments? Kinda sad if Torrance is only in a couple of episodes though so I am hoping its not filmed in order. Do you find this valuable?

His uncle said somewhere here that he was done by the end of the month and then going on holiday in Europe. I would certainly expect that filming of the series is about half over, even if they don't do everything in sequence. Do you find this valuable?

It is no secret Culpeper was executed by beheading. One of the first things Tory did in filming was have a plaster cast made of his head.

I would find acting such a nude scene very difficult knowing every member of your extended family would see it. Canadians are somewhat shyer about exposing their behinds than Brits. I guess you just have to focus on the task at hand. Seeing Tory do a rape scene will be quite disturbing for the extended family, as if he had gone insane. It is just so unlike him.

58. RE: Torrance Coombs as Culpeper, why Tory?

How did Tory get the role of Thomas Culpeper?

I suspect the electricity from Tory's performance will come from contrasting his mild and evil sides. That is just my supposition, not any sort of inside knowledge about the filming. It is based just on what I know as his uncle.. There were so many people vying for that role. I wonder what it was about Tory other than his looks that helped him land the part. It may have been that natural gentle innocence. It may have been that he was completely relaxed in the interviews. Most other people in that situation would have been tied up in knots. Tory is nearly always relaxed and at ease -- interested in those around him, not totally focused on some personal goal. His lack of desperation may have set him apart from the crowd.

If I were casting an relative unknown, I would be concerned that the actor could be natural and relaxed in front of a giant film crew and not bowled over by the global publicity. If I guessed wrong, it would be a major catastrophe. Tory was a quite safe bet.

Uncle Roedy ...thanks so much for your input here on the wiki. Torrance seems perfect for the role because Culpepper was called a "beautiful youth" but what a great part for a young actor because he has this evil side too. The production values of this series are like a movie so he must be loving being part of it. Also he seems to be enjoying Dublin and the people he is with too. Do you find this valuable?
