I heard this teeny tiny rumor not too long ago and it has been bothering me since, while i don't think it has been proven with 100% accuracy that Henry had an affair with Elizabeth Howard (correct me if i'm wrong!), Anne Boleyn's mother, but apparently if it had happened, it was said that Thomas Boleyn mentioned his paternity in relation to Anne, claiming that she was Henry's and not his, please, oh please, tell me this rumor is just that! Do you find this valuable?

Oh my god, I've never heard that before, but it's a horrible rumour all the same! Ugh, imagine if Thomas Boleyn *had* said something like that?

I have to say, it sounds fairly typical of the slandering rumours that were put around during Anne's downfall. I wouldn't be surprised if it had its origins during that time, as an attempt to further destroy her reputation. It's got to be one of the more disgusting ones, though.

The years they were born don't match either, depending on which year you believe Anne was born, if she was born in 1501, then that would make Henry ten-years-old (sick much?), however, if she was born in 1507, then Henry was sixteen-years-old! Do you find this valuable?

If she was born in 1507 and Henry was 16 then, there was no way that he and Elizabeth hooked up because Henry was closely watched/ guarded by his father. Henry VII doesn't seen the type of man to let his son get his freak on. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I agree with Maggie. I really don't think Henry at 16 was sneaking off to have sex with married women. Sounds like a particularly vicious rumor.

I have read that in a couple of books. They say that Henry and Elizabeth did have an affair but Anne being his daughter were rumors that circulated during her downfall. Lets hope this is the truth huh. Do you find this valuable?

I know that I've read this and I'm trying to remember where: Once in conversation one of Henry's courtiers jested that the King had slept with all of the Boleyn women. Henry blushed and muttered 'never the mother".
It seems unlikely that Henry every bedded Elizabeth Howard Boleyn.

That rumor was going around at the time of Henry VIII divorce. Henry VIII denied that he ever slept with Elizabeth Howard, however , Elizabeth was one of the women in Queen Katherine's court ( the rumor said that Henry VIII had a affair with Elizabeth when he was 17/or 18 years old and that it was set up by his friend William Compton/
Brandon) and was said to be very pretty in her day. But there is no proof that that she had a affair with Henry VIII, and hand Anne by him....but even if the rumors were true, it's not like they would admit to it anyway. So it just a rumor . A interesting one , I might add. One that I explored, and it made me question a lot of things.

I found the reference. It was in Fraser's "The Wives of Henry VIII" pg. 101 bottom of next to last paragraph. Cromwell, who was supposedly present, corrected Henry, adding, "...never with the sister (Anne) either.' Fraser cites a secondary source, Kelly, , H.A., "The Matrimonial Trials of Henry VIII", Stanford, California, 1976. Since this was likely a scholarly work, Kelly must have found it in a primary document.

Hate to say it but I wouldn't put anything past him. If you want to surmise based on watching The Tudors, everybody slept with everybody. Do you find this valuable?

In Eric Ives' AB biography he thinks that the rumour started through people getting names mixed up : Elizabeth Boleyn / Elizabeth Blount.

Gosh when I think of all of the discussions about Henry VIII and his wives/girlfriends/love/lust life througout the ages, it boggles the mind. The sad thing is that he was the King of England and this is what he is remembered for, the religious reformation being a far second. And even that is tied up with his women problems. I wonder what really went wrong? Do you find this valuable?

I think probably when he was younger two events (among other things)really affected him:

1) His mother dying when he was 10

2)When he was 16 he began to spend a lot more time with coa and this was when he began to fall in love with her, but then his father sent her away, making him just more determained to get what he wanted, something that he would do many times in later life to disasterous conclusions
