22. RE: Katherine Howard's portrayal this season?

"I have been reading some of the threads here and alot of people seems to be believe she didnt have an affair with Culpepper it was just a flirtation then why historically KATHERINE took birth control methods. You cant get pregnant if she was just flirting and then why was she concern about getting pregnant because she was having an affair, "I heard that Kathryn was using contraceptives with Henry actually, and how people found it stupid that he didn't even notice, she could have also been using them when she was younger and immersed in her other affairs, Dereham, Culpepper and Mannox (Madox?)! "I've read so many things on these caracters before the show even came out. Alot of things we can't 100 percent know for fact so I'm just going to right what I've read. I think people are being too hard on Katherine she was so young and was told to seduce him. Of course she had her own agenda too. But it was documented that Jane Seymour cheated on Henry too.Anne seduced him and Jane seduced him.Jane was sleeping with him before the death of Anne. Jane is one big reason why Anne was exicuted. He was in a rush to be with Jane that the fastest way to marry her was to get rid of Anne.I don't think Katherine was that slutty not any more then Anne or Jane. Henry just thought Katherine was inoccent but she wasn't and neither were three of his other wives"Will you please share the source of the documented evidence that Jane Seymour was sleeping around and sleeping with the King before marriage? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"And how on earth were they able to still pass a child out of them, it hurts enough without that kind of damage being done!"The rocks as contraception I think came from the (fiction) book The Autobiography of Henry VIII with Notes by his Fool Will Somers. He thought KH was pregnant and the doctor told him she had "miscarried stones". In the book, he felt sorry for her which is an unlikely story...lol. I don't know if she swallowed them or inserted them, but on another thread it was discussed and more information might be found on Tudors Medicine page here. At any rate, if she did, I would surmise it was to avoid getting pregnant by her lover(s) Do you find this valuable? |

"They used Rocks and someother stuf, but ROCKS, why? How? LOL!"I've haven't heard of that one,EEEWWW!! Anyway,What I have read was that the woman inserted a very thin piece of sheepskin that kind of acted as a diaphragm. Also, there were herbals that proved effective in some cases. And I am interested in Jane S. having sex before Henry,I don't think so. Even if she did have relations with Henry while Anne was alive,I doubt she would have with anyone before him. Also,Jane did what Anne had done,in refusing Henry until she had married him. Do you find this valuable? |

"I adored that Autobiography of Henry VIII by Margaret George, that book is the perfect example of Historical Fiction. "I agree, for years one of my fave books was George's Memoirs of Cleopatra, then I accquired my Tudor affliction and the Autobiography is certainly in the top 3. I'd agree with the others too, most of her books are very accurate. I also thought that Katherine used birth control with her lovers from her days at Lambreth, not with Culpepper, since historically most experts are still divided on whether she and Culpepper ever did the deed. Well, they have set her up to have another affair; I imagine she will spend all of her time with Henry as a total air-head giggling and looking past him at every man that walks by. It's already set up for her to see and seduce Culpepper. How else will the show be able to justify her execution? I'm wondering how they are going to introduce him into the show. Also who will rat on her, since it was the anti-Norfolks who were involved in real life. Perhaps T. Seymour and Brandon will fall out and since Brandon has more emotional history with the King it would be Seymour who would, Here's a thought: Sleazy Bryan will want her and when she rebuffs him, he will be the one. That would be right up The Tudors alley. Do you find this valuable? |

"Ahhh don't get me started, I have already done more than my share of damage on other threads. Brief: Bryant looks like a pimp, the "dormitory" like a brothel, the dowager like a madame making crude comments. HOney-Beez of course we know none of this is in any way historically accurate. I feel they have done the girl a huge injustice and contributed to an unfortunate stereotype but if you think about it, all of the characters except Henry given complex emotions are totally one-dimensional. Even Brandon is predictable. Why do I watch the show, members will ask? Why indeed? I will say that on every episode I can tell within 5 minutes what is going to happen, and poor Kitty Howard is portrayed as nothing more than an ignorant, giggling horny little teenager. When in fact she needed affection and idolized Henry in a way, and what young girl would not jump at the chance to be queen? He called her his "Rose without a Thorn" and how are they going to possibly include this when she is thorny as hell? lol"I absolutely agree with your description of the pimp/brothel/madame spin, which is totally historically innacurate. The Dowager Duchess of Norfolk was in no way likened to a "madame". However, the historical Katherine Howard was in fact promiscuous, both before and during her marriage to Henry and I think the runners couldn't pass up the chance to use that historical tidbit to spice up the show.
