JRM in Season 3
May 19 2009, 5:11 PM EDT
I am a JRM fan, but watching this season I am in awe of his talent. He was by turns, frightening, frightened, spoiled, regal, impetuous, grief-stricken, lustful, depressed, dispondent, frustrated, paranoid, borderline insane, unsure of himself, entirely sure of himself, vain, and on and on and on. And, at least for me, there is something about his acting that made you truly feel all of these emotions -- sometimes to a degree that makes you uncomfortable (like that incredibly lustful, overripe look when he hands Katherine the ring). It is a blunt and larger than life portrayal, but it is a truly interesting portrayal of a larger than life individual and he has somehow, with all the evolution of the character and changes in circumstances, managed to be entirely true to the Henry he has created. Not once can I remember thinking -- I don't think Henry (JRM's Henry not the one in the history books) would have done that. It is an incredible performance and I hope he is widely recognized for it.

He demonstrated that he has such a wide acting range-he can go from being violent and nearly spitting with rage, to such tender, heartbreaking melancholy (Jane's death scene was one of the most wonderfully acted scenes this season, in my opinion) and do so in a convincing manner. He's been one of the few people this season who has brough such depth to his role, and can make you both love and hate Henry in just one episode. Kudos to JRM! Do you find this valuable? |
