Charles Brandon's PTSS

It is very typical for soldiers to be very mentally distressed after returning from war. It is the SOP that all soldiers attend debriefing so that it will "ease" their transition into everyday life.

Unfortunately these damaged souls will present with disturbing behavior such as attacking their wives in their sleep, hallucinating, and become very easy to startle. (These are just to name a few.)

I sympathize HEAVLY with what mental issues Brandon is suffering. It is hard to experience and to witness it in someone you know.

I know this might be a delicate topic considering there are probably veterans and military wives in the crowd, but I would love some feedback on this topic.

I don't want to say that Charles Brandon wasn't affected by what he may have seen in battle, we cannot ever know that. However, I think we should remember that back in the sixteenth century, warfare was seen in a different way than it is today. As far as I know, it was an honor to go to battle and prove yourself, and I do not know that they felt the same pangs afterwards, because of this difference. After all, jousting, bear baiting, hunting, and other violent sports were very common, so they were not raised to be squeamish or sympathetic.

Obviously this is an issue that touches soldiers and veterans today, and it is a serious thing, but I am not sure that Charles Brandon would have necessarily gone through it. However, if someone else has a different opinion, I'd be glad to hear it.

I believe HC is portraying Brandon through "modern eyes". I don't think the real Brandon went through PTSS of any sort as depicted in the series. OOPS! Was I thinking about what happened in episode 4?
