"I think you may be right, Maggie. It's going to be both horrible AND amazing seeing Cromwell's final scenes, because James will be incredible...but we'll be losing him :( I'm dying to know what these 'other elements' are that Hirst brings into Cromwell's character that James talked about in the interview."
I have read that before he was executed Cromwell stated that he was dying in the old religion, i.e., as a Catholic. This would seem to be a repudiation of his life's work. It will be an interesting episode.

"How many times are you going to say that? Get over it. Sorry but you should leave this thread LadyJane. The thread was suppose to be about James Frain and Thomas Cromwell. No haters."
i dont have to leave this thread this is not a communist site you cant pick and choose who can read and write their opinion. i am more mature because i did write a thread about the cromwell obsession and alot of people dont like my opinion about him but i will never tell them to leave the thread or not read it. you see i can take it i am a big girl and sometimes i do learn something with people i disagree with.i dont think i am always right. like some of us here.

"What I wish is that he would be on shows that I watch... Criminal Minds, or maybe The Office? OMG, I would freaking love it if he were on The Office.... =D"
Ha he'd be brilliant with that dead-pan expression he uses sometimes! We've yet to see the Criminal Intent eppy here, so I'm on the lookout for that. Although I'd love to see him on Brit tv, we're really not producing anything worthy - just more and more reality shows :-(

This is so true, Tilly. Brit TV is going down the tubes...we only seem to be able to produce good costume dramas - occasionally. I'd love James to get his own show or something, like Hugh Laurie with House.

Yeah that'd be great, they've given Rufus Sewell a series of his own (forgot name already) Our costume drama's are the best...... although the same little clique of actors are always used.

I'd noticed Rufus Sewell had a show coming up...maybe it's an omen, he and James were supposed to be lookey-likeys back in the day. Positive thoughts!

That's actually true, he wasn't a yes man. The only one who wasn't.

"Might I ask you, what was Cromwell, Wolsey, and More too, suppose to do when they might not have agreed with the King's policy? Were they suppose to turn they're backs on the King and thus risk the King's wrath? No, they ALL were suppose to do what the King wanted, when he wanted. It didn't matter what they thought, or believed. More did eventually turn his back on the King, but at his own risk. I know you don't mean to get people rilled up with your comments, but it infuriates me to no end when you make up unreasonable excuses to dislike Cromwell. He wasn't a god, no one is saying he was,but he was a damn good man. He deserves respect from everyone for his work ethic, his mind and his sheer determination. You seem to forget that Cromwell was too, a religious man. Your reasons for disliking Cromwell are, to me, are just hatered towards him. What has Cromwell done to you? He was only a man trying to make his way in the world. Sorry that you don't respect that. I do, and so do others. "
A damn good man might be a tad overboard.

"I like KA , AB and JS as well, certainly they were strong minded Ladies, I don't know why it is but I always seem to be more interested in what men get up to than women - that goes for sport, films, politics anything - so I haven't done much research on them yet. Thomas Moore, i'm not such a great fan of though, I think he's had an easier ride historically speaking than many of the other playersof that time and by that I mean how he has been remembered."

I agree.
I don't care for More, at all. I commend him his courage to stand up for his beliefs, but he seemed to want that martyrdom more than life. So, i guess he got what he wanted. But, lets not forget that Thomas More was no saint, not in the Catholic respect or any other, Saints don't have people killed for their beliefs...and More did. That's a fact.

I guess it all boils down to what religion you are as to how you feel about More. But, yes, he's certainly gotten better press than Cromwell or even Anne Boleyn.

How in the name of all that is Holy did this thread, that is titled "James Frain Admirers", become a debate about if Cromwell was good or evil?

For the record, The Reformation, in the long run, was a very good thing for England. Elizabth I must have thought so as well, since she made her realm Protestant.

"LadyJane, nobody asked you to read this thread, so please leave us to our beliefs, and we'll leave you to yours."
I love you guys and your comments. But the best way to handle this situation is to not respond to hateful comments EVER. Every time you answer a comment like that, the poster just keeps commenting. No one's mind will be changed, so there is no point in debating someone that is so set in their ideas Let's just continue to ADMIRE James Frain and talk about the good man Cromwell really was. A man that lived a life full of danger day in and day out. And, none of us knew him personally, so we can't say things like he was all for himself and cared for no one but himself....'cause we weren't there. And, he left so little of his personal feelings an such, so it is beyond unfair to make statements about a man that we didn't know.

And that is all I will say on this subject.

All negative comments will by ignored y me :)

"I hope so. I'd never be able to get to it, but you could tell me about it! I wish he'd do some theatre in the UK, that would be awesome, though it would probably be in London and I'd STILL not be able to get to it. Damn living in the sticks!

I'm really intrigued by this In Plain Sight role he has coming up, though..."
Yep, that sounds good. I hope its a recurring role. And, "Everybody's Fine" sounds cool, too. Especially since we now know he'll play Kate Beckinsale's BF. I just hope he's a nice BF and not some jerl of a BF LOL. Either way, though, it'll be nice seeing him on the big screen again.

In case anyone is interested, Eve Best, who played his wife in "The Homecoming" (The Broadway play he did last spring) will be a regular on the new Showtime series "Nurse Jackie". I thought it was kinda cool that they were both on Showtime series....though his stint will be coming to an end all too soon :(

"Don't know yet. He's annoyingly cryptic about it in that interview! I've never seen In Plain Sight, so I don't even know what to expect... "
"In Plain Site" is about the United States Witness Protection Program. You know, like someone testifies against a Mafia boss and the government gives them a new name and a new life...because, otherwise, they're dead meat. Man, too bad they didn't have that in Henry VIII's day. Now, he's a man who's death I would truly celebrate ;)

It's an American series on the USA network. Hopefully, it will make it's way across the pond, somehow.

Yeah, there used to be a lot of that comparing of Rufus and James, but aside from the curly hair and big blue eyes, I don't really think they look that much alike. And as great as Rufus is as an actor, he just never has done it for me like James has and still does :) Personally, I think James favors Tom Everett Scott and ever so slightly Joaquin Phoenix--before Joaq went crazy, that is :)

Yep, I think it's an act too...a crazy pointless act. Joaq is REALLY talanted, so why is he doing all this goofy shit? Actors: they are definitely their own special breed of...um 'special'. Thank goodness James is a seemingly sweet, gracious, and down too earth kinda guy that doesn't take himself too seriously.. If he ever does hit the real Big Time as an actor, I hope he stays like he is now and doesn't turn into some weird 'it's all about me' egotistical jerk. That would break my heart...'cause, right now, I think he's perfect!

I think he's too "old", too mature that if/or when he makes it big, he himself won't get big headed. I think he's seen enough of the business to know what it can do to you if you let it go to your head. James definitely got a good, beautiful head on his shoulders! I do wish he would go more "mainstream", or that his movies were given more recognition.

Me too, Magge. I'm sure "The Tudors" will get him more recognition, but maybe it's best he stay one of those rare wonderful actors that remains slightly under the radar. Big success equals big power...and power does change people whether they want to be changed or not. Plus, they are always under the microscope of the media, something I know for a fact James would loathe.

As a fan, though, it would be awesome if he became more 'mainstream"'...'cause we'd all get to see him more :)

Yeah, you can kinda tell that he is uncomfortable around the paps. You know that picture with him, Cavill and some chick going out after filming last summer? He didn't look the most happy, sexy, but not very happy.
