Crests of the Queens!
Apr 2 2009, 2:42 PM EDT | Post edited: Apr 2 2009, 2:42 PM EDT
This may sound like a stupid question, but i was just wondering, what were the crests of the other queens, Henry's wives that is, we know KOA's was a pomegranate, and AB's was a falcon, what were the crest's of his other four wives, if anyone knows this? Do you find this valuable?

That's a very good question! I was curious myself because I have only seen Katherine A, Anne B, and Jane's badges: Pomegranate, Falcon, and Phoenix. I looked at this website: http://tudorhistory.org/wives/ and found each of the queen's badges under the "gallery" link to the left of the biography. It appears that Anne C's was a sunburst or star with fleur de lis tips, Kathryn H's was a crowned Tudor Rose, and Catherine P's was a crowned queen with loose tresses emerging from some foliage or flower petals. VERY COOL! Do you find this valuable?

What exactly was the purpose of the crest and who came up with them? It seems it would have had to be very fast seeing as how AnneC had one. Do you find this valuable?

If you read the page, it explains that badges were from ancient times.... there is a whole explanation there. Do you find this valuable?

Checked out the page and just wanted to come back and say why the heck does Henry have the prettiest one? The man I hate so much has such a pretty crest. Anne and Jane's seem a little too gawdy and there is too much going on in them. Anne of Cleves and Kathryn H. are dooking it out for #1 Do you find this valuable?

Elizabeth's in my fave, it's not on the page, but it's probably prettier than Henry's!

Heraldry is fascinating because every symbol and color is fraught with meaning. I just received a book on Christian Symbols in Heraldry and the fleur de lys (sp) actually represents the Holy Trinity, as do several other Tudor symbols represent christian virtues, etc. I would love to pause some of the scenes to look at the decorations on clothing and background. Karen perhaps you can fill out more of the heraldry page with the info from your book?

Reggie, I added the coats of arms of Henry and Elizabeth..they are almost exactly the same.

I got some of the info from Heraldy on the web, didn't save it, my book is Christian Symbols but I am thinking of getting another book on general Heraldry because I have always wanted to make a tapestry...even the lines and the layout have deep meaning. I'll get the information together and try to add to the page.
