Yeah I know he looks good but is this guy getting on anyone else's nerves? Season 1 he's mad at Woley(for gawd knows what reason) and he dies. Then in season 2 he turns against the Boleyns and calls Anne a whore for gawd knows what reason and then she dies. Now in season three he is going to be hating on Cromwell(atleast we know where this hatred comes from) and he is going to die. What is up with this dude?!? He's trying to take out anyone who is close to Henry, I bet in season 4 he is going to plot with Cranmer and the Seymours to take down Catherine Howard.

Guh! Women...LMAOYes he looks good, so does JRM and whoever the homeboy is who plays Edward Seymour. I just can't figure out what is wrong with this bi-polar dude. He's always pissed at someone close to the king. I wouldnt be surprised if he gave Compton the sweating sickness and did some voodoo to get the other guy(who no one ever cared about) written out of the show. 2 out of 7 found this valuable. No just the character, I still like the way he looks its just he seems to be so mean and evil towards everyone particularly those who are close to Henry and he wants to take them down. I feel like they are starting a pattern with him.

I dont' care for the character either. I think he serves a purpose because he is the one Henry can really talk to -- at least when he's not mad at him -- so it helps us understand Henry's motivations. But the way he's arbitrarily angry at the Boleyns and now Cromwell is a bit contrived. It's as if they had to think up something dramatic to keep the character going. Things certainly may change as the season goes on, though. Either way, it doesn't bother me that much because I personally don't see his character as that critical to the show. But I think it's a flaw in the script and IMO the performance.

He's definitely not critical and I am not complaining or bashing the show because of the poor way they have handled his character. Im just watching season 1 again and I am noticing that every season he has a new nemesis to take down. I remember when season 2 started certain people I knew couldnt get pass how or why Charles had changed all of a sudden into a family man. It really does seem like they just don't know what to do with him. But hey, I guess there has to be someone around Henry who doesn't get their head cut off. 2 out of 7 found this valuable. Do you? |

I love his character on the show :D...i believe he's there to show that the King has at least one friend he can turn to when things start getting chaotic around him...and Charles Brandon is really like a big brother to the King, they have known each other practically their whole loves to establish that brotherly friendship...he wants only the best interest for his best friend/brother-in-law...

I think they were going for the shock of Margarets death changing him into a family man. As we all know the tudors isn't accurate and they possibly wanted to make Catherine the love of his life. I agree with you QM, Charles and the King seem to have that good relationship and he is the one Henry turns to when he is low. And as for Charles plotting Ha! Who wasn't in The Tudor court?! Nearly everyone has their own agenda on the show.

Well I disagree with that one as well, GueenMedusa. While I do think Henry turns to him and expresses more of his true feelings and fears, I don't think the Brandon's feelings are true. I think early on in season 1 there was genuine affection on Brandon's part. But that ended. I'm not sure it is possible to have genuine affection for Henry, anyway. But Brandon is to me really just a guy caught pretending he cares about the king's feelings when really he's just trying to preserve himself. Not that I blame him as the choice is either be Henry's friend or be dead. The show is very Tony Soprano-like in that respect

Charles was the one friend that Henry VIII managed to keep around and not behead or imprison. They knew each other from their youth and grew up together to have such a strong friendship. I also believe that he was trying to keep the king's best interests in mind at times and was a loyal friend & confidant. 7 out of 7 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Yep i agree with u coronation...sucks that they didn't show that Maragret [Mary in real life] was Charles Brandon true love instead of cutting it all short like that...and i totally understand how the show was tryin to portray him from being the playboy in Season 1 to a family man in Season 2 and 3 now...and im sure the death of Maragret is the sudden cause of him to change like that :) 6 out of 6 found this valuable. " I also believe that he was trying to keep the king's best interests in mind at times and was a loyal friend & confidant. "+1 I really think that Brandon's 'hatred' for Wolsey, the Boleyns and Cromwell is a form of 'protectivness' towards his best friend. Like in real life, Brandon hated Wolsey because he thought he was too influent (and sometimes, not in the right direction). For the Boleyns, in season 1, Charles didn't want to make an alliance with them at first, he hated them because he thought they were schemers. He did the alliance only because Margaret made him to. Plus, he believed Anne was not a virgin as she claimed before the mariage (remember his warning that caused his bannishment)...He wanted to protect his friends from a marriage he thought was doomed (and dangerous considering her family). So it hasn't surprise me in season 2 that he took part in their downfall.. As for Cromwell, he hate him since day 1, again because he thinks that Cromwell don't necesserally advise the king the right way. So, again, I'm not surprise to see Charles begin a vendetta against him (and since Norfolk is out of the picture in the show, someone has to take his place to take down Cromwell)... I really thinks Charles loves the king (and not just play nice with him to save his ass). Afterall, the real Brandon was called the 'second king' and was granted by Henry of an 'official' burial in Windsor's chapel. This friendship is well protrayed in the show I think and it allows to see an other side of Henry. As for Charles 'big change' of caracter between season 1 and 2, let's not forgot that almost 7 years passed between the two seasons!!! It's normal that Charles has matured...! So to sump up, I think that his evolving and his actions are quite coherent in the show... 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

I like his character. He is like a loose cannon, one time supporting here and then there and then trying to topple another one who he dislikes.I feel he is secretly still catholic but pragmatically stays 110% loyal to the King as he cares for his own skin. He is not the only one doing this through. Cromwell himself does not shun from courting Chapuys and the imperial political match up in one episode and in the next urges for pacts with reformed powers in europe. 5 out of 5 found this valuable.
