Which historical portrait of Anne Boleyn do you like to most?
Mar 10 2009, 5:55 AM EDT
There is uite much portraits of Anne, but much of them are just how Anne possibly could look like, not like she really did.Which one of existing portraits of Anne do you like to most? I like two of them.1. http://savetheassistants.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/anne-boleyn.jpg Comes from 16th century, I like it because Anne is really pretty and mysterious here. 2.http://www.earlywomenmasters.net/cds/elizabeth/images/anne_boleyn_detail.jpg Sketch by Hans Holbein, the Younger, so I guess that she could look like this. And yours? Do you find this valuable?

I like two of them.My favorite would be the Holbein portrait, but i like the other one as well, i think that was the one that was pictured in Elizabeth's locket ring of her mother? I like two of them...I assume you mean, which portrait looks the way we would like her to look. The only authentic portrait (and it is defaced) of Anne Boleyn that was done during her lifetime is a medallion. All of the features except the outline of her face have been obliterated. It is said, because of the similarity in the shape of the face that the miniature inside Elizabeth I's ring, may have been close to how she might have looked. Otherwise, I have no particular opinion. Of course most would like to think she was a great beauty, but that was not how she was described. I think her beauty was in her intelligence and her charisma. She was also said to have beautiful eyes and hair. No extant portrait gives that impression. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"It's true that we all have our ideas as to how Anne looked; according to the Venetian ambassador"she was moderatly pretty". but all agreed it was her brunette coloring and her dark eyes which made her stand out from so many blondes and redheads of the day. She most have shone when in motion, which probably intriqued Henry more. She was slender, and had adopted a French way of speaking and moving. Which explains Jane Seymour,I'm sure, because Henry at that point wanted anything opposite of Anne. I still think he loved her the best out of all of them. So,the Hever portrait to me,speaks the most. I enjoy the Hever castle one, or so I think it is. In the opening seqence of The Tudors they show it in the flashes, it has a blue frame. http://www.art-prints-on-demand.com/kunst/anglo_flemish_school/portrait_anne_boleyn_c1507_36_hi.jpg Do you find this valuable? |
