"I wouldn't mind this movie so much if it had a massive neon disclaimer at the beginning claiming the events are complete fiction. A film doesn't have to be totally factual, but the movie makers should have been more responsible."
YOU'RE RIGHT THIS MOVIE WAS NOTHING TO COMPARE WITH ANY OTHER

"I liked the movie because it didnt portray Anne as much of a villain as the book did. Was it great, no but I liked it well enough. I loved the costumes and I thought Eric Bana looked more like a king as opposed to JRM. But one thing I will discuss that I hated about his Henry is he portrayed him as an innocent manipulated man who was forced to divorce Katharine by Anne. Come on! I hated the book and couldn't even get half way through it, but I did enjoy the movie for what it was. "
ANNE WAS A REAL MEAN SISTER TO MARY OR DID YOU FORGET HOW SHE TREATED MARY AFTER THE BIRTH OF HENRY'S SONAND HOW SHE BEHAVED AFTER WORDS

In the movie and in the book I agree with you, chineyes. In reality, Anne actually saved Mary's pension. When her first husband William Carey died, Mary was left with considerable debts. Anne secured her a small pension and took care for Mary's son to be educated properly. She only got mean when she heard about Mary's second marriage to William Stafford and banished her from court. But actually, Henry was quite pissed off with the marriage, too. Having a commoner as brother in law...

I think that's why many people don't like the movie. It portrays Anne pushing Mary aside for selfish reasons and forcing Henry to abandon her which is simply not true.

"I never saw that film and i really want to. Maybe for the interest in this era of history."
Hello Lorraine, (Hello Ladies)

If you're looking for entertainment only, I recommend this film. Now..wait...don't gang up on me, lolol. The movie was historically inaccurate and mostly BS. But if you just want to watch it entertainments sake alone, and put out of your mind history, et,al., then you will enjoy the movie. I rented the movie and already knew what the members thought of both movie and book, so I rented it w/a positive attitude and was merely looking for a good movie to watch. With that in mind, I really enjoyed the movie much more than most of the members have. I even asked for it for Christmas, and got it. Matter of fact, was watching it yesterday again. I enjoy it for the story, and the shots of Hever Castle and the costumes. I like it purely to watch, as I'd watch the Poseidon Adventure, The Godfather, Bridge to Terabithia. A movie is only as good as you make it. I'd suggest putting out of your mind any inaccuracies, and simply enjoy it as a total story, like Terabithia. I too like to watch movies about history, preferably accurate history, but realize that not all are made that way. So I really had an open mind when I first rented this movie. I enjoyed it despite the bad reviews. If you really would like to watch it, then rent it and see how you like it. That's what I did, and I liked it enough to ask Santa for it for Xmas, and I've watched it at least a half a dozen times since. It's just a movie. Tho one beef I did have w/it, the directors cut out the scene where Carey dies, so we don't even know Mary is a widow when she takes up w/Stafford. They should have left that in. All in all, a good STORY, and I had fun w/it.

Peace,
ETR

"IT WASN'T WHAT I WAS EXPECTING IT DIDN'T DO JUSTICE TO THE TUDORS HISTORY ."
This movie suck big time, and i mean BIG time, because it did not cover nothing from the book. But in my opinion it should have been a 5 part miniseries instead of a badly made 2 hour movie.

Unlike lots of people here, I liked the books, I think they have a nice spin of things and makes you think of what could of happened, since we don't know everything that happened. I don't think that they are completely factual but I tend to like things more based on a story then being one hundred percent correct since they tend to be at least more entertaining reads. And they are trying to make a movie for "The Boylen Inheritance" with Catherine Howard and Anne of Cleves. It was released that production was starting a few months ago though I don't believe they have released the cast.

I was very disappointed with the movie though, it had some good moments, and the costumes and scenary were gorgous. But it had nothing to do with the book, and even left out that Mary's first husband died before it shows her with Stafford. I think it would have been better if they made it more like the book if not more accurate. And it does show Henry forcing Anne, which I didn't like. It didn't show much of Anne and Henry's courtship or about Mary's life at Hever or anywhere else and focused on other minor things for the most part. The deleted scenes made the movie alittle bit better, or at least better to understand but it was still a disappointment.

^^ I agree. I'm okay with her books, you just have to know it's not factual in the least.

It's a shame. When I heard Natalie Portman was playing Anne Boleyn I was like "whoa! she actually looks like her!" but then when I saw it I was extremely dissapointed with the script, AND casting.

*haha can you imagine people looking up HenryVIII thinking he looks like a mix between JRM and Bana, and then getting the Holbein portrait? haha.

I found TOBG to be a Tudor version of Sweet Valley High, the good sister Elizabeth as Mary and the bad sister Jessica as Anne, Todd Wilkins is Stafford the noble boyfriend and Bruce Patman as Henry the rich bad boy. Ahhh...really takes me back! lol Do you find this valuable?
