Sorry that alot of you do not like the fashion of this time period. But do not forget nylon and such had not been invented yet, and they were coming out of an ice age, so the climate was much colder then it is today. They had to stay warm somehow, even wearing grandma´s couch cover, lol.
Seriously, I am a history freak especially about this time period. I have read every book about all the Tudors and I have to say of all the plays, series and such done on them. This one does bring them to life. They were not perfect, and their beliefs back then were very different then today. No Women´s Lib and such. A husband could very easily do away with his wife and no questions were asked. What Henry the eighth did was wrong, and I think if he had waited until Catherine had died, then married he would have gotten his longed for son a lot sooner and a much healthier one at that. But then we would not have had Queen Elizabeth who proved along with Catherine of Russia that women were not dumb and that what the church was teaching was a bunch of hog wash. It just took them a little longer to prove the church wrong, but then the church is made up of men anyway. Lady Lennice

I have to admit that I do like the King's, if not all of the men's outfits. They are not feminine at all, at least not to my male sensibilities. Yes, at times they may look like curtains to us, but at that time such wonderfully designed fabric was only reserved for those that could afford it, which meant being of the higher class. Of couse, the King would have the best of all, which he indeed has. :) Do you find this valuable?

I think understanding Joan Bergin's original mandate from the producer's from the series is important to keep in mind before judging historical accuracy of the series as a whole. The Tudors is a deconstructed historical drama, it is not and never was intended to be historical accurate or a documentary type program. The clothing especially was never meant to be accurate, it was to be influenced from history with a modern twist. If you want codpieces there are other programs to watch with that. I lot of users love the costume from the time period, that's why they've put the time and effort into making the pages that contrast and show the difference between the fashion on the show and the fashion of the time period:

I like some of the outfits and I dislike others. I am in love with all things pretty even if they are not historically accurate. Apparently the gowns of the ladies are supposed to be more in line with the one's in The Other Boleyn Girl and I must admit those gowns were just as beautiful if not more beautiful than the one's in The Tudors. Like the emerald green gown Anne wear when she meets the king again and the sapphire one she wears when she goes to visit Mary when she is pregnant in bed. Do you find this valuable?

I love the costumes in "The Other Boleyn Girl" as well, it's the only reason I ended up watching that movie in the theatres. If it wasn't for the costumes and sets I would have walked out. And honestly they're not any less inaccurate than the Tudors, the only major difference was Sandy Powell unlike Joan Bergin more limited herself to the style of the 1520's-1530's England and France. Unlike Bergin's designs for the Tudors it was less obvious for the untrained eye to spot things like anachronistic fabrics (nylon!) and fabric patterns.
