That man is goregous. Makes me want to move to 16th century France and be the king's American mare.
When I saw pictures of the real Francois and Charles I busted out laughing! Talk about a major rewrite of history.

LOVE Emmanuel Leconte! I have to agree that I would rather wrestle in the mud with him than JRM. My only complaint is that he looks a little petite and Francis was such a tall and brawny guy. Do you find this valuable?

François Ier was handsome (ok, I admit the painting portrait are not flattering...) but he was describing as a very handsome man, so handsome that Éléonore de Habsbourg fell in love with him when he was captiv of his brother Charles V. She asked her brother to release him and to permit her to marry him...
He was very tall (almost 2 meter tall!!!) and had the habit to roll his eyes when he was annoyed, which was not really 'classy' for a king..XD

François Ier is my favorite french king ^^ Maybe because where I grew up and live, he is the historical figure of the region (I live between his royal castle 'Amboise' and his 'hunt domain' Chambord). Both most gorgeous castles!!

Anyway, I thought Emmanuel (who is parisian by the way) portrayed him quite well (especially the shallow and jolly side ^^)

Francis (excuse my anglicizing his name) is one of my favorite kings too. And yes, he seemed to make all the ladies swoon. I actually don't think he looks that bad in the portraits showing a younger Francis. But of course these portraits were painted to reflect the Renaissance beauty ideal - long aquiline nose and hooded eyes.

say, is your icon from the movie Queen Margot? I loved that movie.

He wasn't as ugly as Charles but I definitely would not be swooning over him. I could never look past his nose. I would probably be sent to prison for saying "WTF" when first looking at him. Do you find this valuable?

"say, is your icon from the movie Queen Margot? I loved that movie. "
Yes it is ^^ Love it too, Isabelle Adjani was so gorgeous in this....and no need to apologize to call him Francis...I'm just so used to call him François, it feels weird for me to call him otherwise XD

Anyway, you're quite right about the portrait thing ^^ I whish I could go back in time to see how he really looked like...*w*

>>Anne'sCurls: I don't think François Ier would have sent you in prison for saying 'WTF' by looking at him! I think, on the contrary, he would have laugh hard and find a way to turn your quote in a funny way to make the court laugh at your expense AND seduce you by make a witty reply quoting you...^^
He was known for his famous quote, and it made me smile watching the show cause they quote 2 times François Ier with 2 of his famous sayings: « Souvent femme varie. Et bien fou qui s’y fie ». I think I said it in french in he show when François was talking to Henry... And the other one, it's Wyatt (??) who said that french said "a court without women is like a garden without roses''..It's actually François's quote ^^
