K...SOOOOO off topic of Peter O'Toole but while we are talking about DVD collections and movies...if you ever have an opportunity to see Some came running watch it. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and a VERY very young Shirley Mclean. It is such a good movie and apparently one of Franks favorite movies he ever did. Vincent Minelli directs it so it is colorful in some ways but no singing for Frank just plain old acting and it is great! Do you find this valuable?

"Which Dracula did he play in? "
It was entitled simply, "Dracula" and was made, from the date on my VHS tape, in 1985. For me Christopher Lee IS Dracula (never did care for Bela Lugosi) but Frank Langella in the role was a worthy successor in his time. His eyes in this version are hypnotic. I'm not into vampire movies as a rule, but I read the Bram Stoker's "Dracula" and have seen many of the movies based on it. .

...and his costars were Donald Pleasance as Van Helsing and Kate Nelligan as Mina.
I don't know that a really faithful adaptation of the book has ever been made.

"Yes, I have that version of "Hamlet" "Miss Austen Regrets" was shown on PBS during their Jane Austen series. Unfortunately you can only get it as a package deal with (I think) "Sense and Sensibility" or another dramatization of hers. I like it, too, and Olivia Williams as Jane was good. She painted a realistic portrait of Jane in middle age (for her time; she was only 42 when she died, but that was considered past it in those days) , and an honest portrayal of the state of poverty in which she and Cassandra lived; she could have married and lived comfortably, but she chose her freedom and her muse.I wish they sold it by itself. It is interesting to contrast this Jane with the way she is portrayed in "Becoming Jane". The only problem with it is that they they build what was probably only a mild flirtation into a full-blown romance and have Jane eloping (even though she does not go through with marrying him) with Tom Lefroy, which never happened, but then, on the other hand, it is interesting to speculate. The Jane of "Becoming Jane", is still strong-minded, although too pretty. I liked "Becoming Jane", though and bought it. I also liked the soundtrack . I'm a fool for 'pretty' movies, especially if the actors have British accents, and there's nothing wrong with a tasteful romance, especially since we know the real story. The Jane of "Miss Austen Regrets" made me think that one of the reasons she never married was that she would always be free to have flirtations and fall in love without giving up her independence.
I prefer the O'Toole-Hepburn version of "The Lion in Winter" because it is interesting to see O'Toole's take on the older version of the same character he played in "Beckett" , and although Hepburn's accent did get to me in most of her movies, I barely noticed it in this one she was such a worthy foil to O'Toole. "
1. Love British romances but prefer Real Jane Austen from her books rather than about her.
2. Agree about Olivia Williams! She was perfect - who was her mother? They looked like twins.
3. Agree Austen didn't marry so she could flirt, she alludes to it in the movie to her niece, it was so cute.
4. You have to see the Glenn Close/Patrick Stewart version - it is really excellent. What is it that Eleanor says she would do to Henry and "God would call it justice!" ? ? ? "Of course we have weapons ... we're barbarians!"
Or maybe you did see it...I love Patrick Stewart and he was good in Lady Jane, too. Why can't we get American actors as good?

OOOO Donald Pleasance is so creepy and spooky...he plays Cromwell in one of the Six Wives' movies and he looks slimy even in that role!

I got that mixed up; I think Donald Pleasance was Dr. Seward: Lawrence Olivier was Van Helsing.

Everything with the Rat Pack was great. Their t.v. specials (live) were outstanding. My 26 year old son has a huge poster of them over his bed and listens to all of the old-time Christmas songs and Nat King Cole, etc. OMG now you know my age for sure...

Actually the role of Mrs. Austen was played by Phyllida Law, who in real life is Emma Thompson's mother and really does for me, resemble her real life daughter, Emma . Jane's sister, Cassandra, was played by Greta Scacchi. Now, I could see a resemblance that was almost sisterly between Greta Scacchi and Olivia Williams.

I love Frank Sinatra and loved him in this movie especially since he didn't sing. It made it that much better. My fiance is a little dark haired italian so every time I watch Frank it reminds me of him.

There you go, I was confused with mother/daughter. They did look almost like sisters.

It took me two years to get the family spaghetti recipe...I actually convinced him for a year after we started dating that I couldn't cook. He fell for it then I thought I would be nice and cook for him one night...He stopped eating 1/2 way through, looked at me and said "YOU CAN COOK!"...I rue the day. Ever since I have to cook all the time. I laughed so hard the first time I went to one of his cousins weddings. We were outside having a smoke and all you could hear from the hall was Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin singing inside. First wedding I ever went to where there wasn't any gifts too. That was weird. Just 100's of enveloped stuffed with money. I could be ok with that.

I realized after I posted that I was guilty of stereotyping Italians, and I did not mean to. I have my weaknesses for neopolitan men (prefer the Dean Martins to the Frankies). Gee, you can gab on and find yourself in trouble, worrying about hurting somebody. I hope everybody knows by now that humor is my way of coping and I am the least prejudiced person I know (except for my kids, who I was very strict with about that). That said, YO! I wanna have a cuppa cawfie wid' Petah O'Toole!"

Most of the Italians I have met (and I have met alot of them he has like 1000 cousins all named Tony, Maria & I even met a Rocko once) are what you would think they would be and there very proud of it. I don't think you said anything derogitory.
