It is a pleasure to see such a great actor as Peter O'Toole on this show. He looks great and sounds wonderful! I am one of his biggest fans! I have such a crush on him. I hope to see him more of him in the next season 3 of The Tudors. I enjoy watching him in every scene. He brings class and charm to all his roles.

"From The Tudors Cast PageI first saw Peter O'Toole in "Lawrence of Arabia" wit Omar Sharif . O'Toole was absolutely beautiful. He has aged well. He is still beautiful. I love his voice, too. At times it has a quality of elegant sarcasm, as it did in "Becket" in which he played Henry II to Richard Burton's Thomas Becket. Do you find this valuable? |

O'Toole is just an all around fabulous actor. His voice and presence is always noticed, an elegant and charming touch to each of his roles. One of my favourite O'Toole moments was win he finally won an Oscar and said "Always a bridesmaid and never a bride, my foot!" Do you find this valuable? |

"Elegant is the word that perfectly describes him, he and Jeremy Irons with those voices. If you closed your eyes, you'd imagine they were in their 30's. He (O'Toole) is also great in the role of the Pope because he doesn't overplay it; you never know if he is a hero or a villian. Do you find this valuable? |

He could melt butter with that voice...JRM is a close second though. I use to have a customer when I was in hairdressing school and her husband was paying for her hair. I had my back turned and if I hadn't of looked would have thought Sean Connery was behind me. I asked him if anyone ever told him and he laughed. He was from the same area of Scottland that Sean Connery was from. Him and JRM could read me the phone book and it would be worth listening to. Me I just have a plain old Canadian accent... I have him on VHS narrating a special on ancient Egypt. His voice is as smooth as melted Dove chocolate, and again with perfect diction. It's just very soothing. I sometimes fall asleep listening more than watching the documentary letting that voice lull me to sleep. His voice as a narrator is not that deep growl he assumes for the character of Richard Nixon in his current role. Do you find this valuable? |

He was soooo handsome and I agree absolutely about that voice. The resonance is it, what they all have in common. If I had to listen to the phone book, it would probably be Irons or that new guy who played Darcy in the most current Pride and Prejudice. Robert Powell is another one, and he narrarated other Biblical things, as well. Do you find this valuable? |

"From The Tudors Cast PageI love O'Toole & started a thread on him shortly after he appeared on the series as Pope Paul III. He is an extremely talented actor who JRM happens to admire a great deal. His speaking voice is wonderful. If you ever saw him in Beckett with Richard Burton, you can close your eyes & just listen to both of them; visuals are not necessary! I loved him in The Last Emperor & A Lion in Winter as well. As a young man, he was gorgeous & is still looking good at 76! Do you find this valuable? |

"I love O'Toole & started a thread on him shortly after he appeared on the series as Pope Paul III.Well, thanks to all of you, now I HAVE to get BECKETT to add to the other 500 movies with actors with resonant voices and actresses skipping along in their regency dresses without a care in the world except which man will bail them out of spinsterhood... What is link to the thread you have on Peter O'Toole. I actually fell in love with him in the tv movie Svengali with Jodie Foster and Venus. I saw him on some interviews and I fell in love with him even more. I love seeing him in just about anything. He quite handsome with them blue eyes of his. Oh my! He just sends me. I am trying to find out how I can get an autographed picture of Peter O'Toole. I had read that it is hard to get an autograph from him cause he doesn't promote his movies much. I hope I can even meet him. some day. I could listen to his voice all day long. Oh my! Hope he will continue to play Pope Paul III in Season 3 of The Tudors.

I just can't help myself. I am usually broke, too, because of buying books and DVDs. In fact, I have $15.00 in Borders Bucks that are yelling at me to spend them :-) Do you find this valuable? |

"Sorry about my recommendations, KOB. I just can't help myself.By the way, have you seen "Becoming Jane"? It's the story, somewhat embellished, of Jane Austen and Tom Lefroy, who was supposedly the one man she might have loved. There is a lot of dramatic license, but it is a wonderful movie; Anne Hathaway has the role of Jane. (This comment is courtesy of your mention of "actresses skipping around in their Regency dresses"). Sorry, everyone for getting off topic. Another good Peter O'Toole movie is "The Lion in Winter" He reprises his role as a curmoudeonly Henry II in his latter years. Katharine Hepburn is a much more spirited and true to life Eleanor of Aquitaine than the actress who played the younger Eleanor in "Beckett". And speaking of Eleanor of Aquitaine, several years ago, A&E network produced a mini-series of "Ivanhoe". Sian Phillips, Peter O'Toole's ex-wife, plays a powerful, feisty Eleanor of Aquitaine in that one Oops, sorry, KOB. It will be my fault if you order either of the foregoing. :-) Do you find this valuable? |

I had it on VHS, got it on Alibris.com, discounted. It's even better than the Hepburn version, I like her but her "Bahston" accent drives me to distraction. Not like Cate Blanchett who could not only do British but do Hepburn so well that you swore it was her if you weren't looking. I saw Becoming Jane and was disappointed, it was too pretty. Jane was not that pretty, she was a word=warrior. There's a film called "Jane Austen Regrets" (or something - exerpts on Youtube) which portrays her as you would have been her, an attractive, strong-willed, complex woman. I am tired of movies always pursuing the romantic angle. Have you seen Glenn Close in Hamlet with Mel Gibson. Sorry everyone for veering off this post. But some of these actors and actresses are right up there with Peter, and I am sure he would agree! Do you find this valuable? |

But some of these actors and actresses are right up there with Peter, and I am sure he would agree!Yes, I have that version of "Hamlet" "Miss Austen Regrets" was shown on PBS during their Jane Austen series. Unfortunately you can only get it as a package deal with (I think) "Sense and Sensibility" or another dramatization of hers. I like it, too, and Olivia Williams as Jane was good. She painted a realistic portrait of Jane in middle age (for her time; she was only 42 when she died, but that was considered past it in those days) , and an honest portrayal of the state of poverty in which she and Cassandra lived; she could have married and lived comfortably, but she chose her freedom and her muse.I wish they sold it by itself. It is interesting to contrast this Jane with the way she is portrayed in "Becoming Jane". The only problem with it is that they they build what was probably only a mild flirtation into a full-blown romance and have Jane eloping (even though she does not go through with marrying him) with Tom Lefroy, which never happened, but then, on the other hand, it is interesting to speculate. The Jane of "Becoming Jane", is still strong-minded, although too pretty. I liked "Becoming Jane", though and bought it. I also liked the soundtrack . I'm a fool for 'pretty' movies, especially if the actors have British accents, and there's nothing wrong with a tasteful romance, especially since we know the real story. The Jane of "Miss Austen Regrets" made me think that one of the reasons she never married was that she would always be free to have flirtations and fall in love without giving up her independence. I prefer the O'Toole-Hepburn version of "The Lion in Winter" because it is interesting to see O'Toole's take on the older version of the same character he played in "Beckett" , and although Hepburn's accent did get to me in most of her movies, I barely noticed it in this one she was such a worthy foil to O'Toole. ...by the way, did you know that Katharine of Aragon and Jane Austen share the same (December 16th) birthday?
