Surviving Possessions of Anne Boleyn
Jun 5 2008, 5:06 PM EDT | Post edited: Jun 5 2008, 5:06 PM EDT
Does anyone know if any of Anne's possessions still exist today? I know that one of her books does, but I haven't been able to find much else. I'd really like to know if there is a website that has pictures of them if they did survive.

Any ideas or theories as to what happened to the famous "B" necklace?

Theres a website called Tudor blog which has information on things like that. There may be something on there.

Anne's bedhead still exists at Hever Castle. There is a virginal ( musical instrument with a keyboard), as well as a lute that is also said to be hers. Anne was an accomplished musician) A clock given to her by Henry exists. Also the prayerbook she carried to the scaffold survives and is now in the collection at Hever Castle. Pictures of the bed head (headboard), virginal, the lute, and the clock can be seen in Norah Lofts' biography titled "Anne Boleyn".

Hmm, I'll have to check that out, unfortunately the library here has a very limited collection of books on Anne Boleyn. I may need to check into a library loan. Any idea where I can see those items online? Do you find this valuable?

I will try to scan photos of the items in my copy of Lofts' book and place them on the Anne Boleyn Page. Most are in black and white, so I don't know how clear they'll be

There is already a nice color picture of Anne's clock on her Historical Profile page. There is also a black-and-white photo of her bed head on the same page bottom right above the title "Haunted House Story". I have added a photo of Anne's lute to that page. The photo of the virginals is spread across 2 pages in Lofts's book It is too big to fit my scanner screen.

Wow, thank you very much! I'm off to go take a peak.

To bad the "B" necklace was lost, I would really love to see that.

I read that you can also see her "Book of Prayers" at Hever Castle and that it is still inscribed with a love note between her and Henry. That is my dream vacation. To anyone that has been there tell me a little bit about it. Is it worth it?(I know it has to be)

I have often wondered what happened to her famous "B" necklace. That necklace is an item that is so related with her, that I don't understand where it could have gone.

A lot of books that were in her personal possesion have survived. The Book of Hours, that she took with her to the scaffold, is in Hever. I'm not sure where her copy of the Tyndale Bible is (I'm guessing it's now in the British LIbrary since they own it?), I know that it was on tour at the Library of Congress in D.C. during an exhibition on Tyndale (and I'm still kicking myself for missing it!) the website for the old exhibit is here, and there's a picture of her Bible: http://www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9707/tyndale.html
Also, in Ives 2004 edition of his book "The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn" there's pictures of various books she owned, included one illuminated pslamer that she and Henry apparently wrote notes to each other in the margins and past back and forth during church services! If you haven't read or seen the pictures in his book I highly recommend you do.

I am researching to see if I can find out what happened to the "B" necklace and in the course of that I found a website:
http://www.parrishrelics.com/hboleyn.html
where you can buy a replica of that necklace. apparently a replica has been worn on the TV series "Ugly Betty" and that has brought it notice.
Happy shopping!

I seen Anne's book of hours at Hever Castle, it was the best day out ever. The Castle is amazing, it's cosy and fairly small for a castle. It was strange to be in Anne's bedroom, the headboard from her bed is still there. It was brilliant to be able to look out of her window and see what she would have seen. There is a huge lake there and a maze, there is also a bookshop. I don't know how far you would have to travel to go there but no distance is too far, it's well worth the visit. There was also jousting going on while we were there. I can't wait to go back. They also have a display off torture instruments there.

I read somewhere that Elizabeth had the B necklace and had it's stones put into her crown. Don't know how true it was.

In the film "Crossed Swords" an adaptation of the Prince and the Pauper, Elizabeth is wearing the B necklace. I was shocked, because she was sitting right beside her Henry (played by the late Charlton Heston) during a court banquet, who would have ripped it right off her neck if she had done such a thing in real life.

It would be interesting to find out the fate of that "B" necklace, it's infamous, lol. I do recall that after her beheading, Henry had all of Anne's possessions discarded and paintings of her were hidden...as if she never excisted, which is disgusting, trying to erase a human being. So it may be that her necklace in lost somewhere in history.

I was looking through the comments for The Tudors on IMD's website and one of the posters asked, "Why is she wearing Ugly Betty's necklace?"
The ignorance of some people is astonishing.

That would have surprised me too. Henry didn't just want Anne gone, he wanted her erased from his life. If Elizabeth had dared such a thing Henry would have flipped. Do you find this valuable?

Things turn up all the time. Recently Elizabeth's christening gown was discovered at a manor house.

"Recently Elizabeth's christening gown was discovered at a manor house."
I read about that, I was surprised it survived after so many centuries and that it could be confirmed as THE gown that Elizabeth was christened in. Was it the same gown Mary was christened in, or did Anne and Henry not get that one from KOA? I forgot...
