"If he was invited to the christening, saying "no" wouldn't really have been an option for him.

What I'm curious about was what Henry's motivation was when he issued the invitation; was it a sop to his conscience, a way of rubbing his nose in the fact that Jane Seymour had succeeded where Anne had failed or was he so happy to have his son at last that he wanted everyone, including the disgraced Boleyn, to share in the celebrations?"
Guess you're right about no not being an option. I forgot who he was dealing with.
Interesting observation concerning Henry. It may have been a bit of both.

"Apparently, the real Thomas Boleyn (and his still-living wife) never got in touch with Mary after they found out about her marriage to William Stafford, not even when they lost their other two children.

Re. the series, would Mary even *want* to see her father under the circumstances?"
I think he doen't get involved wiyh Mary, more the pity, as it is pretty accekprf, that MARY GAVE Hnty 3 children, who were healthy and protected by their stepfaher who was s good man. She sas one of te few who lived happily everafter.
Thruch s trange thah fiction.

Her family rejects her which was very unfair, asd she had the girt, Yes she was rhe suruvir, ezcrit mary, Eliabeztheh

I am replying to my own post, as It was not edited. The thoughts were there, but I must have written it very late at night, as I am an insomniac, and like to write at night. Sorry for all the typos everyone. No wonder no one relpyed!
Anyway, I realize Philippa Gregory is certainly not an accurate historical source, but Mary and William Stafford were a love match. I see no reason why SHE would want to see her father at this point, as she certainly knew his role in the court, and that he was key in the demise of Anne, and her brother. She was the only one that did have a happy ending. What I don't understand is why Henry never laid any claim to her first 2 children, which were most likely his. Maybe he had a bit of conscience here and left her be. Regardless, I see no reason why Mary would even allow her children to know Thomas Boleyn, as he was such a horrible parent. Where his wife Elizabeth came in to this I have no idea. Did she love her children, or grandchildren? Princess Elizabeth might have been called a bastard, but she was still a princess, and her grandaughter. There must be more to know about this. I do think previous posts regarding Thomas Boleyn are right in being curious about his lovelife. He must of had mistresses, but apparently no love interests, not that he was a lovable man. Does anyone know more about this? Ms Squirrly, I have to think you could weigh in on this one. What's the story?
