"Holly2, that is a great observation! I wonder if this is due to the change in her social status? Maybe not since Elizabeth used it or something like it with Henry. Maybe it's an age thing or the fact that the relationship is increasingly becoming less and less affectionate."It can't be the change in social status or age - she called him "Papa" in the fourth episode of Season Two, after she becomes Queen, but he was "Father" in the next episode, a couple of months later when she loses the baby. I'd say that it's a less affectionate relationship, tying into the fact that her position is weakening; maybe Anne was subconsciously aware of the fact that if her position became weaker, like after her miscarriage, she couldn't count on her father to stand by her. "Anne's father didn't seem to appreciate how much Anne had to do with their rise. How arrogant."Then again without her father, Anne wouldn't have had the education and experience to become such a successful courtier. I don't think it's arrogant (trying to think from a 16th century perspective), without her father's guidance Anne probably would never have gotten so far up in the society without him. "Desiderata said-I was thinking this "change" for a while now, without dormer, northam, kennedy, the show has killed off much of it's characters in one season. I'm wondering how the directors and producers are going to fill this gapping void left by these absenses! Certainly there will be more characters too watch like the Seymours, but I can't see myself getting as attached to them as I had the Boleyns, and they've been killed off as well as More and KoA. "Maybe they will show Jane Seymour's father in his affair with his daughter-in-law. With all the other wild court craziness we've seen, he should fit right in with the group. :0 Speaking of which, if I didn't know that was something about the man outside of the show, I would find it to be far fetched. Life can be stranger than fiction. :( Do you find this valuable? |

"To put it bluntly, as characters, Anne, Katherine and More, along with their stories, are more interesting to popular culture than the Seymours. Is it a coincidence that there are so many novels, plays and films knocking around about them, and about Anne in particular, compared to a relative scarcity of material about the Seymours? Jane Seymour's life usually features in books about the six wives, but how many biographies have been written exclusively about her? How many novels? A quick search of Amazon revealed two novels about Jane Seymour, both as part of series on the six wives, and no biographies, nowhere near the volume of material on Anne or Katherine. More often, Jane appears as a supporting player, usually a relatively minor one, in Anne's story. Do you find this valuable? |
