80. RE: No Time Wasted with the Executions - SPOILER ALERT for Episode 9
May 22 2008, 4:36 PM EDT
"Perhaps but I think (I THINK) I have read that she never took a husband because she wasnt willing to take a back seat on the throne which she thought would have happened if she married. And in all reality it might have since men in those times were DumbA$$' "Nobody really knows the exact reason that Elizabeth did not take a husband. It my opinion, it was a combination of many historians theories. Robert Dudley (one who should have known, lol), said that she told him at the age of eight she would never marry. That would have been near the time when Katherine Howard was beheaded, too. Elizabeth, by that time, had seen the plight of woman in the world, and the required submission it called for her to have for her husband. She also watched how her sister behaved with Phillip as King with her, and I'm guessing she did not like the idea of having the foreign husband over her. So that was out. Then there was the diplomatic angle of her marriage. If she could keep stringing foreign princes along without really saying yes or no, she was able to maintain peace. Then there's the theory she created a type of cult of personality around her, "The Cult of Elizabeth" (based off of the "Cult of the Virgin Mary." She gained her people's loyalty and almost kind of turned their religious thinking towards her, too. All of these things had their advantages, and Elizabeth was no fool not to recognize it. She could have married Ivan the Terrible (those are some great letters to read between them and others, btw), but she didn't. And they probably wouldn't have seen much of each other at all. And I believe she was too strong-willed to take a back seat to the throne, even if she did marry. Dudley, having known her since she was eight, would have known the troubles he would have had with THAT, lol. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

"It was also apparently the memory of Catherine Howards demise that put her off marriage."I wonder if her Mother's execution did not have something to do with her desire not to marry. She was very bright and strategic and found that she would be controlled by a man. She did not want this. It appears that the men she found desirable were unsuitable. Robin and the Earl of essex who rebelled against her. I am sure that she was very lonely in her life. She did not have a partner and was always on display with her every move being watched at all times. It had to be very isolating. Do you find this valuable? |

They show the following week's episode the Sunday before it actually airs. So, this Sunday, you could watch the finale instead of waiting until next week. Do you find this valuable? |

"I think I'll tune out during that torture scene when I watch Episode 9. Everyone seems to agree that it's over the top. Like you, I would much prefer to see the trial. The father was in a room next to Anne, on the floor reading a book. The expression on his face showed him hurting, but trying to be brave. I have a virus on my personal laptop, so I have to wait a couple days to get back online. I am sure going to miss all of you while waiting to speak about 10. I don't know Lettice....do I even want to see it. When they execute Anne, and take Natalie’s character out of the pic do I want to watch the show next season. Natalie is 65% of the show in my book. I was also thinking while lying in bed last night.....I didn't feel good, so I try to imagine things or people in worse situations than mine, and I thought about Anne. Can you imagine really…… kneeled at your feet waiting on someone to slice your head....I can't believe that happen to her. I had blood work done yesterday, and I had to turn the opposite direction just for the Tech to draw blood, so imagine a sword to take your ncek to take off your head at the hands of the man you love at that. It seems like when they come to come to terms with it and accept it, they're at peace. I don't think I could ever get to that place. I would need major drugs to knock me out. One of the saddest scenes all season to me, was when Cardinal Fisher came out to be executed and admitted he was scared and asked the audience to help him get through it. I was so happy they were supportive of him. I sobbed and sobbed. Do you find this valuable? |

One of the best thus far. I do think that when you have to face things their is a certain peace that surpasses all things, but I don't know....like you....I may have been so delirious from the shock, I'd gone mad. Yes, Fishers conquest was super, and how he stood for what he believed til the end, and also confessing to his weakness which is fear of death. I know I am not scared of death, but the way I am faced with death is my fear (how I will die). I rather die sick or natural causes, but to be tortured or go through something horrific as they all did WOW I don't know... Do you find this valuable? |

"Where is the last letter now?"I'm not certain, Hever, but I think I read that it was last on display at the National Maritime Museum for their commemoration of the 400th anniversary of her death in 2003. It could still be there now, but maybe not since it was part of an exhibit. Do you find this valuable? |

When I was watching the episode, I thought her downfall was too quick. I was hoping we could see a slower version to see the similiarity of Queen Catherine's rejection and Anne's rejection. I think Jane Seymour started entertaining in the new Seymour rooms and Anne's rooms were becoming emptier because Jane was the new favorite. Also Anne was called The Whore, Anne Bolyen. LOVE THE TUDORS

Henry began his pursuit of Anne by 1525, proposing to her in early 1527 but it was July 1531 before he finally separated from Katherine and late 1532 before he and Anne consummated their relationship and married. The three of them spent years in a limbo situation while the Great Matter was being fought out so there was a time when nobody at court would have known which way to turn. In contrast, only a matter of months passed between Henry taking an interest in Jane Seymour and Anne's murder. Do you find this valuable? |

The show may become boring without Anne; look at her replacement! I don't know how she faced death so bravely. She must have had unbelieveable strength and courage. I probably would have had a breakdown and someone would have had to carry me to the block kicking and screaming! Do you find this valuable? |
