140. RE: No Time Wasted with the Executions - SPOILER ALERT for Episode 9
May 28 2008, 6:49 PM EDT
"I believe history wil show that Ann was not only a master manipulator but also a probable murderer and suspected of poisoning many including Katherine of Aragon as well as trying to poison her daughter mary. It shows a Woman who would and did do many things in order to become as well as stay Queen. This also includes a possible relationship with her brother that historians have written the reason for the deformed baby. To say I admire her for her spirit. perhaps her drive and ambition are incredible but It just goes to show, if you live by the sword, you die by the sword! "I think for the most part historians are very sympathetic to Anne. I'm just curious - what historical sources did you use to arrive at your conclusions regarding Anne? I hope one of them wasn't The Other Boleyn Girl. Phillipa Gregory is not a historian, but a sensationist writer of historical fiction who could easily work for some tabloid magazine. It's interesting that of all the murderous people who lived during that era, you mention none of them and instead focus on Anne. What about Henry? If anybody was a master manipulator and murderer, it was Henry VIII. Many medical experts have determined that Katherine of Aragon was not poisoned but died of cancer. Do you find this valuable? |

That's what I would have thought too. I thought if it were true, Henry & Cromwell would have used the information in her trial, although I guess adultery was enough to bring her down.

As to the deformed baby... Baby's don't always look like real humans if they are born to early, since I believe she miscarried about halfway through her pregnancy it's actually not a deformed baby, but just a natural one that is not fully grown. If any of you have seen pictures of embryo's you may be able to imagine that back then they thought it to be deformed.

Henry was the true villian. I've always seen Anne as a victim of her time. As she was outspoken and assertive, she was seen as a bitch and a witch. I don't believe she poisoned anyone and I agree: don't believe all that you read, especially Phillipa Gregory! Do you find this valuable? |

"I think they did actually bring up at her trial that she had poised Katherine, but the evidence for this was as weak as the evidence they produced for her alleged affairs. "Yes, I think it is definitely a factor."Basically we've come a long way, but like others who have been supressed, we haven't completely arrived. All men are created equal? Why not all people? I admire Hilary for her strength and intelligence, but it's those traits that sometimes (unfortunately) work against her. Do you find this valuable? |

My 18-year-old daughter swears that is not true for her generation, and that everything is going to be so much better for her. I certainly hope she's right. However, she's at an age where everybody is questioning how they've been raised. People often go back to what they're familiar with once they get older. My husband always pretended when he was younger that he was all for women having careers, but once he was settled into his practice and around a lot of other conservative people, his views changed drastically. It's a testosterone thing; not that I excuse it! I hope things continue to change, for the better, with each generation. My daughter basically says the same thing. Do you find this valuable? |
