Hi!
I'm french so please excuse my bad english... My question is the following: does anyone know where I could find the classical pieces which are played in each episode of "The Tudors", for example those that were composed by thomas tallis or william byrd (maybe)?... I have searched in sites such as "heard on tv" but didn't get any answer...Thanks for your answer..

Hello valmontvs!

I do not know if you use Apple computers in France, but if you do, you can download Tallis' music from Apple's online music store, iTunes. In the United States, it usually costs around ninety-nine cents to download a song, but you can listen to thirty second clips of each song for free. A group called the Tallis Scholars perform his music.

I hope this helps!

And you English is much better than my French ever could be! :-D Or my Spanish or Welsh for that matter, since those are the ones I study :-D

And your English is better than mine, too! Exchange "your" for "you" above in the last comment. :-D

Thank you for your advice "SemperEadem" but unfortunately, I don't use Itunes but Windows Media Player...
Actually, I was looking for the names of each song for each episode, so that I could go buying some CDs on Amazon or at some CD-shop.

Anyway, thank you for your information about "Tallis scholars"... I will look for some CDs at my CD-shop...

There's a whole bunch of CD titles with Thomas Tallis and William Bryd listed on Amazon.com,
here's the link:

Hope that's helpful.

"Hi Sempereadem,
How long have you been studying Welsh for?"
I started studying Welsh last November, since my research for postgrad work required me to be able to read in the language. I can't speak it for anything; I've tried and think I sound completely horrible (imagine that, since so many people speak it in the States speak it...I have LOTS of people to practice with, lol just joking! I practice listening to BBC Wales language website). Thank goodness I only have to be able to read Welsh! Do you speak or read it?

O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau! Plus, I'm happy to learn Welsh because I would hate for it to die out. We can really thank Elizabeth for probably saving it because if it wasn't for her allowing the Bible to be translated into Welsh, it probably would have. The Tudors were Welsh, after all!

Even though I am Welsh I can't speak it [ as silly as it sounds ]. My children are fluent in it though.

Don't worry, it doesn't sound silly to me at all. There has only recently been a resurgence in teaching it in the schools, right? Is that how your children learned?

It's nice to meet someone else from Wales! I'm currently trying to teach Americans that Wales is NOT in England, as that is the question everyone asks me after I tell them I want to study in Wales, "That's in England, right?" You'll have to forgive us for the poor education we receive in geography.

Yes my children learned from school, it's only right to be able to speak your own language really. I must learn one day myself. Yes, some people do get mixed up with where Wales is. Have you been to Wales yourself?

Unfortunately, I have not been yet. I know that sounds completely strange, but have you ever felt drawn to place without ever having been there? My research is actually on Tudor policy concerning Wales, since I feel it has been dreadfully overlooked as a part of English expansion as a whole during the Early Modern period. I suppose I first became interested in Wales when I was a child and saw in a heraldry store that some of my family name came from there. When I found out the Tudors were Welsh (and that Elizabeth spoke the language), it just furthered my interests, and here I am today!

Thank You, your right it has been overlooked. Have you looked into other things about Wales apart from Tudor policy and learning the language? Where in Wales would you go if you came here?

Oh, the castles, I love the Welsh castles. I have a lovely book on them, with all the fascinating stories that go along with the property. The story of Owain Glyndwr interests me, and of course, Llywelyn. Although I would love to got to Cardiff, I really want to go to Aberystwyth for the nerdy history buff in me...the library of Wales and ocean call to me!

You see, that's the great and wonderful thing about living there, because I look out my window and go, "Oh, nice, an interstate." :-D
