She was born in Greenwich. She was raised at Hatfield. Then as queen she traveled from palace to palace where-ever court took her, one of her favorites was Richmond Palace where she liked to go hunting. She also died there in 1603.

You're quite a font of knowledge Boudica!

Yep, the kings (and queens!) of England had lots of hang outs it gets confusing tracking them down. Elizabeth has been one of my heroines since I did a project on her in eight grade! I've been obsessed ever since :)
I'm also a fan of Kristine (also spelled Christina) Queen of Sweden. She did do all the amazing things as queen that Elizabeth did, but she was an independent, passionate, intellegent individual who was very much ahead of her time, and was able to do what made her happy - abdicate her throne, convert to Catholicism and live in Rome in her own Salon. Good for her, I say. :)

"Does any one know why Elizabeth did not marry, and were she died"
Hi Brandy246,

What I can tell you for certain is that Elizabeth died at Richmond Palace in 1603. As for why she never married, that is more complicated.

Robert Dudley (who I like to think of as her "twu wuv" lol), claimed that as young as age 8 she claimed she would never marry. This was around the time Katherine Howard was executed. Certainly, Elizabeth understood the perils that faced even royal women. Her father had executed two and one had died in childbirth.

There's also the chance she didn't marry because she couldn't marry who she wanted to. Whether she ever loved Thomas Seymour or not, who knows. And Dudley? He wasn't royalty, but that hadn't stopped Henry from marrying Jane or Anne or Catherine Parr. If she sensed it wouldn't have been a popular marriage with her councilors or with the people, she would never have done it. Elizabeth was a PR genius, and she may not have let a little thing like love disrupt that (and the people might have been upset, since Dudley's wife Amy mysteriously died while he was rumoured to be with the Queen). She was found to have a letter beside her bed from Dudley when she died, however. She had written "His Last Letter" on the outside.

There's also the political and diplomatic power she had by remaining unmarried, however. By remaining single, she could rule without interference from another (either because they would have held sway over her or as a man or to keep foreign influence out of England). Additionally, by remaining unmarried, she could keep peace in England by suggesting she might be considering marriage to foreign powers. She did this with Phillip of Spain, the Duke of Anjou, and Ivan the Terrible of Russia.

So, why didn't she marry? Was it her father's treatment of his wives? Was she afraid of childbirth? Could she not marry who she wished? Who knows, but probably a combination of all.
