"The relationship between Charles and Margaret. Lust? Love? Means to an end?"In real history, Charles was actually married to Henry's younger sister, Mary. Mary married Charles after her first husband King Louis of France dies of natural causes. Henry's older sister Margaret was married to the King of Scotland. Charles loved Mary very much; I believe they had a son and two daughters. Mary died of consumption around the time that Anne had her coronation. Mary never liked Anne and was a supporter of Catherine. The Showtime version really bends the truth. This character Margaret, who kills the King of Portugal , was make believe. Charles cheated on her like crazy and seems to reconcile his ways after she dies. If you go by the fictional account, I do believe Charles had feelings for the Margaret character, but he was too selfish at that time to truly love her. The real Brandon and the real Mary were in love. They did marry without Henry's consent, but Henry was truly delighted as his favorite sister and best friend were married. In the show the relationship between Brandon and Margaret was a bit bizzare. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

I wish the creators did more with the "Margaret" character, I felt cheated after she died after only six episodes. Mary Tudor was one of the most influencial women in Henry's life, and we really didn't see much of that bond in the series unfortunately. In real life, I think Mary and Charles was definately a love match. Despite Henry's close relationship with both of them, he explicitly told Charles not to propose to Mary and they both disobeyed his orders by their secret marriage (a treasonable offense to marry a princess of the blood without the monarch's consent). By risking so much, I would think they had to be in love, which was touched upon in the series but the relationship fizzled after awhile. I think "Margaret" in the series is the stock type of female character that teaches the "bad boy" how to love. But in the series this lesson came to late, and she died before Chalres could really appreciate what she meant to him. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

Henry did come around to the love match and marriage between Charles and his sister Mary, but they were heavily fined for this before Henry forgave them. Mary preferred to live on Charles' estate in the country and away from court to raise their children. I believe Mary proposed marriage to Charles to get around Charles' promise to Henry. They were still taking a calculated risk. Support from King Francis also helped, but Francis had a hidden agenda. He wanted Mary off the marriage market so no further foreign alliances could be made by marrying Mary off to a foreign Prince. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Mary preferred to live on Charles' estate in the country and away from court to raise their children.I agree with all of you I had much rather see Charles marry Mary to give us the rest of the history that comes with it likeLady jane Grey and Mary Queen of Scotts this part of history has no way of been due to just having one sister portrait in the show instead of both Mary & Margaret...but to get back to the question I do think Charles did actually love Mary and they did pay a big price to Henry also by paying back the money spend on Mary wedding,,, but She was in love with him and I think Charles was also in love with her. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. In the episode when she died I remember him standing over her coffin and saying that he was sorry. The way he said it made me believe that he did love her if only briefly. I had to kind of laugh though (well maybe not since it's not really nice) at the fact that while Mary was drying Brandon is having sex with another woman. It just seemed odd. Do you find this valuable? |

As m Maragaret is not the actual Margaret (Henry's older sister who married the King of Scotland), we can only guess. The real Brandon truly loved Mary Tudor. Do you find this valuable? |

Ido think they loved each other. Brandon didnt need to gain anything he was Henry's best friend. Since it seems this was something very big for the series to skip can you help those of us out who are still reading and still learning ? THanks~ Do you find this valuable? |

In the series they totally obliterate Henrys sister Mary...she was the one who married Charles Brandon in real life and had a daughter named Frances who married, and had a daughter named Jane. Jane went on to be Queen Jane and lasted 9 days as Queen and was beheaded when Mary, Henry's daughter, became Queen. Margaret married the King of Scots. Her daughter was the one that could have ruled the kingdom if Mary(HVIII daughter) wasnt to become Queen. In the end Mary had her killed. Do you find this valuable? |
