Cranmer
Apr 5 2008, 5:44 PM EDT
as a former episcopanglican, i have loved cranmer forever--for the poetry of the Book of Common Prayer... even though the showtime series is often historically inaccurate, it is still a fine series. i love to make the connections between the English Church Reformation as based on money, power, sex, greed, divorce, remarriage, fertility, male power, female power etc with today's crisis within the Anglican Communion, where so many of the same issues are simmering and boiling. In that vein, I hope we get to see some of the GLBT stuff of all these folks, beyond the extraordinary Thomas Tallis, that is...

Cranmer's history of his "hidden" marriage is also fascinating.

I just need to bitch a minute. We live in this hideous Banana Republic town of Evil Chiquita banana where there is sorry cable. We are showtime subscribers because there there are no restaurants, no shops, no bookstores, no libraries, no movies to rent..just dirt, constant noise, huge holes in the roads invested with Dengue and god knows what all. so of course our effin showtime has been out since last saturday. and of course we can't receive any of the free previews or youtube'd episodes because we are in this wretched place. i am just soo annoyed. even SurfTheChannel's Tudors site won't stream... GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRR.

well shhhh....don't tell anyone but you can download pirate copies off the net. BTW where exactly is this Evil Chiquita banana place that you live? I live in Canada and we don't get the series until the fall and we too are not able to watch the online preview episodes. Do you find this valuable?

we're in the Republic of Panama... i've tried the pirate copies sites; so far, nothing. the banana trucks plowed through the cable so we're tudorless (and waterless) until ???

no previews in canada? that's horrible! ahh, canada, our first choice of new home. we're looking for a new place--rather a new church as my husband is an episcopanglican priest... we've good friends in moncton. and a lot of folks from barrie ontario were here last year to work with us--great folks!! oonagh+

i'll keep searching for the pirates of the tudor monarchy....

AND the Tudors is an irish/canadian production! But I guess showtime owns it and they are american so we just have to suck it up.

Have you been to Canada before? You know about our winters, right?

PS. I sent you a private email about the pirate stuff.

Personally, I did not think he was a poet. and I am very sorry you live in a very sad town. Go thing you get showtime. Also, i think it is fine it is an Irish/ Can. production. Of course you know the star of the show is Irish. So all the more for it. Do you find this valuable?

I've just realised that Hans Matheson, who plays Cranmer in The Tudors, has previously played Robert Devereux, the Earl of Essex, in 'The Virgin Queen' miniseries.
Interesting! :D
Bernard Hepton is the best Cranmer though. The spitting image of the portrait!

We don't get Showtime in England, and cannot view anything on the website either. Although Showtime is American, the production is Canadian/Irish, and the lead actor is Irish.... the dynasty they are portraying is English, and we won't even get to see it for an age. *sad face*
