Natalie Dormer: a descendent of Jane Dormer?
Mar 28 2008, 1:50 PM EDT
Jane Dormer was a lady in waiting to Queen Mary I, daughter of Katharine of Aragon and Henry VIII. After Mary's death, she married a Spanish grandee, Don Gomez Suarez de Figueroa of Cordova, Duke of Feria. Jane Dormer's autobiography was the source of accounts of the reigns of Edward VI, Henry's son, and Mary I (Weir, pg 228.) Does anyone know if Natalie Dormer is descended from the family of Jane Dormer? 12  out of 15 found this valuable. Do you?

I would think any children she would have had would have had the father's name, But they could be related thru brother or other relatives 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

The peerage website may help, its a geneology website for the nobility of England, and there's lots of Dormers listed. It would be quite a coincidence if they were related, eh?
I found out that Joanna Denny (who wrote the Anne Boleyn bio that I don't like) is a descentant of Sir Anthony Denny, a member of Henry VIII's Privy Chamber (maybe that explains her bias against "papists?") Wierd coincidence.

Another good Dormer family page, a bit more helpful. I agree with atroposjuno, Natalie is most likely a great, etc. Aunt, I'm not even sure Jane herself had children, much less were named Dormer. The easiest way to find out would be to work backwards, trace her ancestry from her parents to grandparents to great grandparents, etc. and find if they match up any of the people of the list above. (It's much harder for a geneologist to work fowards - work from Jane Dormer and hope it connects somewhere to Natalie)

That's true, but I was thinking that she might be descended from some member of the Dormer family. Her father was Sir William Dormer. It would be a nice coincidence. In England and I suppose most places, many regular people are descended from some of the ancient families.
I did stumble upon an online edition of "The Autobiography of Jane Dormer, Duchess of Feria", but foolishly did not bookmark it. I need to find it again.

Sir
Sir Anthony Denny was the one of Henry's men who was brave enough to inform Henry that he (Henry) was dying. Neville Williams, "Henry VIII and His Court" pg 260.

I would love to have Natalie talk to us about the experience of playing Anne. Was she as profoundly moved as her audience? Did she feel like she was connected the the real Ane from 500 years ago? I can't imagine living a real everyday life like getting up, eating meals, dressing in the 20th century, and then doing the same type of things as another woman in another time. It really spooks me. I have trouble leading my own life when i get involved with all this historical reading, and I'm not an actress. I find I think about these people all the time now. spooky 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Is that the same William Dormer that was originally proposed as a suitor to Jane Seymour?
