Hello "lady" mary!
Mar 24 2008, 10:45 AM EDT | Post edited: Mar 24 2008, 10:45 AM EDT
I'm so stoked that Sarah Bolger has been cast as the teenage Mary Tudor! She's a top notch actress with the beauty and brains to boot. I loved her performances in "In America" and "Spiderwick", it was actually the later that made me think she would be really good in either a period drama or a pirate flick. Now I see she's going to be in season 2 of the Tudors and I'm so excited to see her as Mary, I'm sure she will knock our socks off! Her last role in Spiderwick was very independent, determined, loyal, saucy, all the qualities I envision a teenage Mary Tudor to be during the Anne Boleyn - Jane Seymour years.
Perfect casting decision, I applaud.

Oh yes, the casting people are doing a great job with the calibre of their picks for the main characters! I know it was controversial picking Jonathan Rhys Meyers but he has proved his mettle. Season 2, they have added some stellar actors plus some great new faces. A lot of these actors are not TV actors but known for their movie work as young Sarah is. I am sure this part will be a great addition to her actor bio. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm glad that Showtime decided to take a chance in casting Jonathan Rhys Meyers because he makes King Henry a likable and Believable person. Plus women tune in to see his sex appeal. 4  out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

The casting is great. I saw the first episode and loved Peter O'Toole!!!
I absolutely agree re: JRM as Henry. He couln't be sexier, but Ray Winstone also made Henry a believable (and sexy) character in his portrayal. He was also more easily morphed into an old, obese Henry. Can't envision that with JRM.

"Can't envision that with JRM."
Yep, that's the one thing that bothers me. I know make up artists can do wonderful things with prostetics and editing, but... if JRM does fatten up successfully for The Tudors, give that man an Emmy! I think if he does well playing the obese, sickly Henry it will prove he's a serious actor, however if he does and the result is laughable to unbelivable it won't go over well.

Yes ladies, I have to agree with you both but I think he will probably just be "heavy set" rather than fat. He is not the Henry of past performances. JRM has said that he uses his personality to portray Henry's "bigness". So far its working. It will certainly test the limits for JRM and will be very interesting to watch. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

I love JRM as well and respect his talent. We are all anxiously awaiting for him to get old and fat. What a waste! In all seriousness though, I think he will be able to carry it off.

Please tell me that you are joking!
Beauty and brains to boot?

For one, she's total make-up! And second, brains? The girl isn't a smart cookie, and that's a fact!

I'm sure she'll f*** up Mary and the Tudors beyond reason!

Trust me, you're lucky you haven't seen her act.

And by the way I got a message with all the code of conduct. I don't get it Lol
I mean, I get the idea that I got the message for being rude in my first post, but you can't have any negative opinions on here?

"I'm sure she'll f*** up Mary and the Tudors beyond reason!"

I guess we'll have to wait and see, now won't we? What sort of actress would you have liked in the role instead?
At least she took the time to do some actual research on her character rather than relying only on past performances or popular misconception of Mary Tudor.

You can have a negative opinion, but it has to be constructive. Being negative, for the sake of being negative is also known as trolling, and it's not welcome anywhere. 6  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

Having seen several of her films, that's my opinion. And it is constructive. She is perhaps one of the most over-rated actresses.

I'm actually not a Tudors-watcher. I don't get Showtime. I plan on watching Sarah's performances on Tudors, but other than that, I couldn't really care less about the casting. And I don't mean that rudely. Just the truth.

i totally understand that you don't like her, or in this case her performance, however if you are not a Tudors fan and you don't even watch the show and also you are saying that you are only going to watch her performance on the show, don't you think that is completely crazy?
to go all the trouble and to watch somebody that you don't even like just to give a negative opinion about her?

does anybody agree with me on this???

Sarah is dating my lovey (Freddie Highmore)

Therefore I hate her, and I'm very curious about everything she does

completly agree with you Elizabeth I don't understand the point of getting out of your way to watch somebody you dislike just for the sake of disliking even more. And to predict someones work anticipating failure makes no sence but I guess we are all entitle to our own opinion or not? For my part I am very happy so far with the show it has exceded my expectations and I think showtime has been great casting so far I guess we just have to wait and see dont we?
