Nick Dunning is the Best!!!
Mar 17 2008, 12:54 PM EDT
Nick Dunning on the Tudors, is the best Thomas Boleyn, hands down! I think he does a fabulous job creating such a dynamic character, but he's done the most historically accurate depiction of Sir Boleyn I've yet seen. Thomas Boleyn, was a sly, clever, creature of the court, a master diplomat, yes he had some terrible and morally reprehensible qualities to him (as was required of all courtiers!) but he also had some admirable ones as well. He valued his daughters' education, particularly Anne, and gave her the best education she could get at the court of Margaret of Austria and later under Queen Claude of France. I hated the depiction of Thomas Boleyn in TOBG, he was shown as spineless, weak compared to the Duke of Norfolk (he could actually hold his own to the duke), slow witted, scrawny (the real Sir Thomas jousted with Henry VIII in the tiltyard!), all around a general loser. I think it's true he held his personal ambitions as his primary concern in life, I believe he held true affection for his children and concern for their well-being, and only wanted for them to succeed in their careers as courtiers. Nick Dunning suits my impression of Thomas Boleyn perfectly!

Hi Boudica! I loooove "The Tudors" and catch up with it when I can (DVRs are so handy). As of this writing I'm still waiting for episode 9 and the feeling in my gut is getting tighter because I/we all know what is going to happen. All of the actors on this show impress me and I always enjoy seeing new talent; Natalie Dormer, Jeremy Northam and Nick Dunning are my favorites. Nick Dunning really stands out for me because I feel he has gotten as close as possible to what Thomas Boleyn may have really been like, and I feel that his performance (this may just be a quirk on my part) is actually more restrained this season, at the directors' suggestions? I love the look on his face when George suggests that he could be king of sorts if Henry dies from his jousting accident; you see this internal shift come through his eyes and then he literally glows. That to me is the sign of great acting; Peter O'Toole does this too, he doesn't have to say one word, all he has to do is look at you and he's got your heart in his hand! I would like to see more of this actor's work, and wish I could catch some of his theater performances (I'd love to see him let loose!) but I unfortunately don't live in Ireland,so will have to content myself backtracking his filmography. Plus I think Mr. Dunning is a sexy FOX and love his beautiful hair (okay, there's my swoony schoolgirl bit)!!! Wish we knew a bit more about him. I love this wiki, am still bumbling around with it because I'm still in the stone ages as far as computer proficiency goes, and this site is fun and beautiful! i hope to see more of this great actor in the future. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. He is indeed a wonderful actor. I completely agree that he plays Thomas Boleyn just as I picture him to be. The actor in TOBG was really ill-suited for the role as you stated. I wanted to yell, "Grow a spine!"When you see Episode 9, I think you'll be even more impressed with Nick Dunning's performance, but the character has sold his children to the Devil. Very powerful performance and very emotional as well. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I have to agree that Nick Dunning does a wonderful job at portraying such a horrible and self serving man. You completely view the character with dislike and fear and are left wondering who he might attack or use next. He's awful! Saying this about the character, the actor is a very good looking actor and the eye candy aspect is nice! :) Like one of the other posters, I find his hair to be quite gorgeous. I'm amazed he's in his late 40s because he looks a bit older. Whatever age, it suits him well! His voice is also to die for and is so smoothe! Based on net bios, he appears to have done quite a bit of theatre. In the next couple of weeks, I will be able to see his performance in a film on dvd as a WWI colonel in "My Boy Jack." Other than professional credits, I haven't read anything about a wife or children. Many of the other actors from the series have bios with this information. His is pretty lacking! Unfortunately! Someone add something! Do you find this valuable? |

I've added a photo in the photo album of him with his win at the Irish Film and Television Awards. It's different seeing him in a tux and out of the 16th century!

If I saw him in real life I might alomost have to hate him a little because he did such a good job. His potrayal would be all I could think about when I looked at him. Do you find this valuable? |

The movie is good overall and is about Rudyard Kipling and his son. Some interviews Nick Dunning granted have posted on the web and I've added them to the Wiki. He comments on the show and other things. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Nick Dunning's upcoming play (No Man's Land) is set to start soon! The production opens at the (London) Duke of York’s theatre on 7 October 2008 (previews from 27 September) following a short run at the Gate Theatre, Dublin in August. You lucky people who get to go! I bet he's reallyyy hot and talented in person. ;) I just got back from London so I know I won't be going! This is the cast-Michael Gambon (Hirst), David Bradly (Spooner) , David Walliams (Foster) , Nick Dunning (Briggs). It's about two aging writers, Hirst and Spooner. After meeting on Hampstead Heath, they return home for a late-night session of witty banter, sinister power games, and the worship of alcohol, watched by Hirst’s henchman, Briggs and Foster. This haunting play is part mystery drama, part homage to the ghosts of the past and the fiction of memory.Do you find this valuable? |

David Bradley, like Michael Gambon, has a connection to the Harry Potter films. So, they are bound to get an interested audience! I've just posted a promo photo for the photo in Nick Dunning's actor area. He looks nice. ;) Do you find this valuable? |

I agree! He was an outstanding Thomas Boleyn. During the opening credits of each episode he was in, I would call out "Grandpa!" when his picture came up, as Sir Thomas was my 14th-great-grandfather. I certainly wish Mr. Dunning all the best!
