Jan 23 2008, 1:02 PM EST I am new to the wiki, but I look forward to all the controversy when the new season comes out. I love the Tudors. I was reading Phillipa Gregory's The Other Boleyn girl and then Lo and behold they had made this drama that was On Demand. I watched the entire first season in one week. If you all are so in love with the show I highly suggest The Other Boleyn Girl, The Boleyn Inheritance, and the constant princess. 11 out of 17 found this valuable. Do you? |

Phillippa Gregory
Jan 31 2008, 9:28 PM EST Also The Queens Fool and The Virgin's Lover both by Phillippa Gregory. Her books are great. I totally love The Tudors. The costumes rock. Granted, they take liberties with history, but it definitely is awesome. "All things Renaissance and especially Tudor!" 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Feb 1 2008, 2:57 PM EST I love Phillipa Gregory, but she writes historical fiction. It's entertainment based on some truth. BUT it doesn't keep me from reading her novels; I just separate fact from fiction. You have to do that with The Tudors series as well; there are many discrepancies which detour from historical fact. Authors such as Antonia Frasier or David Starkey have published many books on the Tudors which are historically accurate. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

Feb 4 2008, 4:46 AM EST If you are into a LONG Historical Fiction...long as in 900 pages then I would Highly Recommend The Autobiography of Henry VIII With notes from his Fool Will Somers by Margret George. This book gives you a look inside Henry's Mind which at times is a pretty scary place...Historical Accuracy is pretty good though the decription of people (especially Anne Boleyn) is baised. I cant wait for the Tho Other Boleyn Girl to come to theaters. I have been waiting for the Movie since 2006! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Phillipa Gregory
Mar 9 2008, 5:22 AM EDT I have read many books on the reign of the Tudors. I saw the first season of the Tudors. I thought that there was a great deal of artistic licence in the development of this story. I have not found in any of the text that Ann Bolyen was influenced by her father to become the queen of England. I found it troubling that Sir Thomas Moore was given such a small role when he in history had a huge inpact on the trial of the validity of King Henry and Queen Kathrine's marriage. It left out a very important text that he wrote, besides "Utopia", which was called "The Dialogues Concerning Heresy". This book explains why he burned people for their heritical views against the Catholic faith. I am curiou how long it will take before this series shows the execution of Queen Bolyen. Opps sorry to spoil it for those of you who do not know the history. Do you find this valuable? |

Mar 31 2008, 5:03 PM EDT More also wrote his work, "A Dialogue of Comfort Agains Tribulation" while he was in the Tower. In this imaginary conversation between an elderly uncle and his nephew he states that it is faith in Christ that provides comfort and strength against adversity. Do you find this valuable? |

Many films and series in the past have done the same. Dates and events are mixed up. Characters are made up (ie: Henry's sister Margaret). It tends to be more like a soap opera, but I love it. When I want historical accuracy I read books written by accredited historians. I have to admit, however, that certain events portrayed in the show have bothered me, but that doesn't stop me from watching! Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Phillipa Gregory
Apr 2 2008, 3:50 PM EDT I agree that is entertaining enough to hold my attention as well. I guess I wish that produsers and directors of these shows would actually take the time to at least give a good timeline and more historical accuracy. The truth is just as good as the fictions they create. However, I am glad that it doesn't stray as far as some have done with other things like the epic of "Beowulf". That movie was a travesty! Cheers =D Do you find this valuable? |
