Henry VIII's appearance
Jan 20 2008, 11:06 AM EST There has been a lot of criticism of Jonathan Rhys Meyers because his appearance is so different from the memorable Holbein version of Henry VIII that so many people have in mind, but I don't really have a huge problem with his casting. In Henry's younger years, he was very fit, didn't have a beard, and was considered attractive. Also, he had blue eyes, which is a plus. The only two problems I see is his height is less than Henry's, although that can be overlooked, and his hair color. I really think that he isn't Henry until he has the famous red hair, or even if it was slightly blonde, it would be better. That's my only real issue. 9 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Henry VIII's appearance
Jan 21 2008, 1:52 PM EST although I think the actor is a good actor, I really think he was miscast. He plays it too brooding and totally sex focused. Henry was a popular man as well as king. People liked him despite his actions. His attraction to Anne was not just from his codpiece...he could have had any woman as his mistress. Anne's wit and talent made her sparkle in court...she was not known as a great beauty. Although her large dark eyes were captivating. I would have thought they could have at least given the actress some brown contacts! She was KNOWN for her eyes. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Henry VIII's appearance
Mar 17 2008, 12:38 PM EDT I think that Jonathan Rhys Meyers was the perfect fit to portray Henry VIII. He captures the king's power, lust and arrogance perfectly in spite of not being a damn near perfect physical match. As for the red hair of later years, well..we'll just have to wait and see how the writers deal with that in Season Two. He's got my vote for the Sexiest Man Alive!! 1 out of 3 found this valuable.
