Recently, many of us have shared our religious beliefs and practices. While not all of us have the same beliefs, it is interesting to learn more about other Religions than our own. Some of us are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Agnostic and Atheist. THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO KNOCK ANY RELIGION OR TO SAY WHICH RELIGION IS CORRECT!!! It is purely a learning thread. A place to come and share your views and practices, how your religion affects you personally, and the differences in the churches we attend. This is not the 16th C., and anyone who comes here for the purpose of making trouble, or telling a member his/her practice is wrong, will be brought before the moderators which could result in banning from the wiki. It's ok to come and say you don't believe, but don't overkill w/your statements. There are many members who are very spiritual, and this thread is dedicated to those who wish to learn more about different religious practices and how we view God in general, and also to those who don't believe in a God but would like to learn more.
Peace, ETR

I`m not sure where to post this thread, but i`m putting it here. It`s not a game, but about a game.
Has anyone else tried the Tudors PC game? I suck at it. I can`t get past the second stage where you`re supposed to get water for a potion! Is anyone else having a crack at it?

When I discovered the inscription on Mary and Elizabeth's shared tomb said, I was confused. Shouldn't it read MARY and Elizabeth and not Elizabeth and Mary??? Since she was the older sister after all. Even if James I did like Elizabeth more and was a Prodestant, it was still disgraceful to show such disrespect to King Henry VIII's legitimate daughter and also the fact that Elizabeth's statue thing (for lack of a better word) was TWICE the size of Queen Mary's and Mary's statue was below Elizabeth's despite the fact that she was England's first Queen Regent and her older sister, and also insulting to Mary's wish to be buried next to her mother. I think that it was a terrible thing to do on the part of James I and not very kingly behaviour at all. I know it seems such a silly thing to be annoyed about but considering that Queen Mary was not shown very much love by anyone except her mother, Jane Seymour and a select few others, she deserves more respect than this considering all her hardships and the lack of respect she was shown throughout the vast majority of her life.

There seemed to be quite a lot of fun involved with the last Tudor Election last year and I was wondering if we should start up another one for this year! I don't mind organising it and if you guys think it is a good idea I will start it up immeadiatly.
In any case, this thread is for you the fans to vote for the candidates! I will tally the top 4 for each group and then there will be a vote in the end. You can pick more than once: You can pick a candidate for: - - President - Vice President - First Lady Get voting for your favourite character so he/she can be a candidate!

Just so as not to stray too far away from the "Queen Mary and Elizabeth's shared tomb" thread, I am carrying the discussion of Elizabeth and Essex over here. :-)
My first thoughts are to recommend an EXCELLENT book on Essex, Paul E.J. Hammer's "The Polarisation of Elizabethan Politics: The Political Career of Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex, 1585-1597." The book is pricey, but interlibrary loan it since it is the best look at Essex we have to date and Hammer is a fantastic author. Unfortunately, a number of books/media on Essex out there take the relationship between Essex and the Queen too far, and as a result, he has come off looking like an early modern playboy. Hammer corrects this vision in his examination of late Elizabethan English court society. Essex emerges as not the court dandy who got by on his good looks, but as someone who made it to where he was thanks to his location in the patronage system. Likewise, he wasn't merely motivated by self-interest, but was primarily motivated by a sense of aristocratic honor and humanist values (he very likely modeled himself on Philip Sydney). Finally, he wasn't as incompetent as everyone has portrayed him as: from 1593-1596 he was more than adept at managing England's defense (which is hard to recognize thanks to his later actions). Most importantly, however, Hammer tackles Essex's relationship with Elizabeth, and it is definitely not a sexual one! While Essex was indeed a favorite of the Queen, the relationship was never as intense as many authors have portrayed it. Certainly, Essex had respect for the Queen, but she was old, and he was forced to be dependent on her, and thus he made propaganda work to his advantage. Plus, it seems that Elizabeth understood the man, and that she didn't allow her feelings for him affect England (if anything, trust placed in him could be pointed back to a job well-done previously).

Hi there. In my introduction I said that my husband and I will be writing the card set for the show. I'm a HUGE fan and have watched each season a couple of times at least. I'm also a big Tudor fiction reader and am very familiar with somewhat historically accurate accounts of events. I am looking for input from fans. What you would like to see in the set, what you think of some of my lists so far.
There will be 4 chase card sets that I'm stumped on and am looking for ideas. The sets will be 2- 9 card sets, 1-6 card set and 1-3 card set. I have the 3 set as "Henry's legacy" . I also have one of the 9s set to be locations : Tower of London Hampton Court Palace Whitehall Greenwich Hever Castle Westminster Abbey St. James Palace Non-such Palace Richmond Palace We have decided to put character cards in the main set along with 1-2 event cards from each show (all 3 seasons-28 shows) Here is my character list, I need to trim a couple for numbers and would love input on who should go and if I've missed anyone? Characters s.1(complete) Henry VIII Catherine of Aragon Anne Boleyn Cardinal Wolsey Sir Thomas More Charles Brandon Duke of Suffolk Duke of Norfolk (check what his name was) Thomas Boleyn Thomas Cromwell s.2 (possibly incomplete) Thomas Cranmer Pope Paul III Thomas Wyatt Jane Seymour s.3(still unsure about this season as I haven't watched it yet) Francis Bryan Anne of Cleves Edward Seymour Katherine Howard Jane Boleyn What would you LOVE to see in this set? I was thinking of costumes??

I've read here, IMDb and other places that Henry purposely had Cromwell executed by a novice so as to make Cromwell suffer. I'm not upset that some one would post that, since it is in several novels and telefilms and the story is repeated as such endlessly on the internet. HOWEVER there is no evidence that this was the case. The only real evideance...the only reliable evidence is that from a man that was actually at Cromwell's execution. I believe the man's last name was Hall...but, I'm not certain. However, his account was something like this, "He patiently suffered the axe of a miserly butcher who ungodly performed his office". Now, that leads one to believe that it was a botched execution. But, it doesn't say how it was botched. It doesn't say it took two or three or more swings. But, I think it's safe to say, yes, it may have taken at least a couple. Otherwise, how can the 'butcher' comment be justified. It's not the story of the botched execution that irks me. It's the often told tale that Henry purposely caused it. There is no evidence that that is true. I've searched Google many times and read numerous books, and were that story is told there is never a single reliable source to back it up.
I don't really think Henry was all that keen to kill Cromwell in the first place, but went along with Norfolk and his cronies because he just wanted to get his marriage to AoC over with and get it on with K Howard. In other words, he was too busy thinking with his little head to use his big one properly. Thus he let the whole Cromwell fall steam roll. That's why when his marriage to KH failed so miserably he knew Cromwell had been unjustly put to death...and he began to regret it. Anyway, if Henry had wanted Cromwell to suffer, why didn't he just have him drawn and quartered...as was his original sentence? Sorry, but this myth of his execution bugs me

Hey everyone
Inspired by the threadjack to end all threadjacks, Team Cromwell has decided to attempt to harness the madness (a little) and cash in on the creativity/insanity of its members. The very basic score is that this will be a contributory story that imagines an alternative path to Cromwell’s unfortunate end, where he escapes the tender head-chopping mercies of his crazy King and heads off to a life of unknown adventures. Where will his new life take him? Who on earth will he meet? And will he ever find something to wear that isn’t black? YOU decide…muahaha. All Team members are encouraged to contribute their own parts to the story, and non-members are free to join in if they wish. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I suck at instructions, and this is probably as clear as mud :D I’ve written a seriously clunky introductory scene-setter, which is rubbish because I was scribbling it in-between trying to do coursework. The idea of starting this off in the Tower was donated by Reggie (and then stolen by me).

Henry VII left a good economy which helped Henry VIII. Then for his war with France, he debased the currency (mixed gold with other metals) leading to a fall in the value of English coins. Then, Edward debased it even further. Mary & Elizabeth also played with it. Elizabeth finally fully restored the coin to its proper value. I read somewhere that Mary had actually done this first.
What I would like to know is whether Mary improved the value of coins or whether she introduced some kind of currency system. Does anyone know the exact value of the reduction. I believe Henry reduced the value by 75% but please correct me if I am wrong. I am also inclined to think Mary tried to do something with the currency but not exactly sure what. Will welcome any info ...

Although this day may be a sad one, for many it is a day of celebration known as 'Queen Elizabeth Day' for it marks Elizabeth's accession to the throne. What are your thoughts on this day? For me, I think it is both sad and happy, sad because of the death of poor Mary, but happy because of Elizabeth's accession.

Sorry if this has come up before, and its` bound to have done so. But I`ve just remembered this bizarre dream I had while out for the count this afternoon. I`m an IT tech support worker in reality, and have just been signed off sick for a week, so i`m pretty sure this has some bearing on the dream. But I dreamt I was teaching all six of Henry`s wives how to use computers. Naturally it was like teaching chimps to drive, Katherine of Aragon uninstalled the operating system by accident, Jane was trying to prise open the monitor to see how it worked and generally, all hell was breaking loose. I was panicking like crazy, and all the time Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howards heads kept wobbling ominously and I was trying to stop them falling off. There was no blood, or gore, I just had to reallign them. Has anyone else had any Tudor related dreams? I`m sorry for the randomness of this thread, but I rarely remember my own dreams, and even when I do, they`re usually pretty dull.
