In Season 1, an excellent job was done of developing the panic which enveloped the early modern world when THE PLAGUE (I feel like I should capitalize for effect, LOL) descended. What was everyone else's thoughts about this episode? It was my favorite one of Season 1.
If we look at the plague historically, it was probably more than one disease, which were all lumped together with the common name of plague during the time. Variations of the plague (but still, acknowledged by all to be a plague) were Purple Fever, plague with buboes and sores, and plague with respiratory problems. Some have thought some of the plague cases were early instances of influenza. And lets talk about how to save yourself from the plague...run away, run away! Though England was hit many times, Scotland and Wales were relatively safe from it, and thus the reason Henry sent his family there. Nobles ran to the countryside. And the poor...well, no one really ever cared about them that much, did they?

Oh to have lived back then & be at the Tudor Court. Although it's better if you were born of 'wealth', eh?? :D
I don't know why I'm so fascinated with them (Tudors), but I really am. It seems as if times then were quite depressing, and always COLD in those lovely castles-but your rooms had a huge fireplace. Maybe that's why there was SO MUCH SEX going on...........they were bored!!!??? What do my new pals think???

I find it interesting how many customs of the Tudor era date back to Biblical times, such as unmarried women wearing their hair open, etc. Of course, they were a Christian nation, but still, one would have thought they'd have customs that were more unique to Britain. I guess every country is influenced by an earlier civilization in some way.
