   From Episode 1:8, Scene: Katherine's Speech  Opening Credits | Comments: Can't get any more regal than this. The colour suits her so well. She looks so elegant and classy and the choker continues this. I love the pearls on the bodice. The gown is stylish, classy, strong and regal. amore_angel Katherine's gown and jewelery plus MDK's outstanding performance made this one of the most memorable scenes from season 1 for me. - Boudica Looking every inch a queen in this stunning costume - Maria Doyle Kennedy portrayed Katherine with such dignity & shamed Henry in front of the whole court. Totally agree, Boudica, this was the most moving scene of Season 1 - MsSquirrly A lovely dress that Maria wears well. The dress makes her look regal and she makes it look elegant with her gracefulness. I love the square neckline which makes it from a potentially bland dress into something much beautiful. I love the pearls on her bodice but i wish they hadn't continued it into the skirt in a line. The shape of the sleeves are stunning. fleur_de_lis Katherine looks royal and regal in this gown. The color and jewelry befits her. Along with MDK's acting, this scene defines everything Katherine was in personality and looks. -LNor19 This is my favourite dress that Katherine of Aragon wears. The costume, the jewellery and the crown all define how Katherine was defending her status as Queen. I also love the speech she made - one of my favourite Katherine things is the Blackfriar's speech -VivatAnne1536 Katherine of Aragon looked every bit a queen in this scene, speaking her mind and making her point of view perfectly clear to everyone in the room, and that heard her speak, even centuries later. Her crown jewels are incredible, and very "her", something that I doubt was shown as much as it was with other queens. But this outfit, the jewels especially, was easily my favorite part coming from this amazing woman, and actress. - carteremily Just echoing what everyone else said here. Absolutely loved the dress and the jewels were beautiful. Best scene in season one; Katherine being the strong and wonderful Queen she was. Maria Doyle Kennedy did a fantastic job delivering the speech. *Coronation* Magnificent jewels.-Jes89 It breaks my heart that Anne was so petty as to demand Katherine to give up her crown jewels. Karenofbethany *ITA Karen ~coronation Absolutely stunning...from top to bottom....totally regal!! - offwithherhead Agreed. Totally beautiful and regal in a moving scene, love she is wearing the official jewels of the Queen of England to a hearing determining if she really is queen(which she was!) Come on... A royal Princess of Spain being the King of England's mistress for twenty four years? Unlikely. The True queen - I agree it was very petty and just plain nasty that Anne demanded Katherine's jewels - She refused but Henry forced her to. Ah well - she is at least remembered as the True Queen and her grave always has fresh flowers on it left by visitors. The detail and shape of this gown is stunning, looks amazing on Maria, just beautiful hohumpigsbum This gown is so stunning and I think it was perfect for Katherine's speech scene. As for Anne demanding that Henry take Katherine's jewels, most historians now speculate that that is probably a rumor that was started by one of Anne's enemies, but if it wasn't, that was lame.   Episode 1:9, Last conversation with Mendoza | Comments: I love the outer coat and the colours of red and gold. It makes her look so regal. 'm just not liking the dress, it looks like the skirt is made from snake skin in the bottom picture. But i'm getting Princess Diana vibes here too amore-angel Everything about this scene, the setting sun, the peaceful and composed Katherine, and the outfit -- it's all gorgeous! - Boudica I love the richness of the dress with the reds and gold mixed together to make a beautiful and regal outfit. I agree with Amore that the bottom of the dress does look like snake skin but the texture really compliments the fabric of the coat and the corset. I love the gold leaf effect on the long coat. fleur_de_lis I must agree with you, Boudica. It's an extremely amazing scene. It's my most favourite MDK scene, come to think about it. This is probably the last time she saw somebody that she knew since childhood and is probably saying goodbye to the past--forgive me if I'm wrong, but it came out the way they were channelling their emotions! The costume complemented the scene very well.-Neta07 Completely agree with you, Boudica and Neta07, this dress is awesome.- Lady_Paisley MDK is so beautiful in this scene.-Jes89 This dress is absolutely beautiful. Katherine sitting here as she is reminds me of Princess Diana sitting in front of the Taj Mahal (when her marriage wasn't going well either), and her dress reminds me of an East Indian sari. - offwithherhead totally agree off with her head, it does remind me of Diana! and in many ways she was very like Diana - and they are distantly related! truly beautiful gown maria looks truly beautiful |
  Katherine in Promotional shoot -season 1   Episode 1:2, Treaty signing between France and England | I think the dress would look stunning if it didn't have the puffball sleeves and wasn't so heavy. The colour of black and gold looks so elegant. Maybe its a bit too heavy but i think she pulls it off. She looks better in it with her hair down wearing an elegant tiara. amore_angel This dress is hard to form a final opinion on. In the promotion pictures I do not care for the dress, I find it very unflattering, however in the show itself, the dress looks good on Katherine. The black and gold looks very royal on Katherine.-LNor19 The pattern on the dress is lovely and the colour of gold and black go well together. I just really dislike the fitting which really does nothing for Katherine's figure at all. All might have been forgiven except for those leg of mutton sleeves which makes me think that the Tudors might have been filmed in the 80s. They really are hideous. fleur_de_lis Historically, I don't think she would have worn her hair down in public. Karenofbethany I agree with lnor the dress didn't look that great in photos but I liked it in the show ~~coronation I really hate this dress, not Katherine at all.   Episode 1:6 Episode 1:8  Episode 1:6 | I like the dress beneath, but not the red coat/cloak which is too fussy. Its nice to see her in some colour though rather than her trademark black. amore_angel They make her look dowdy here, which she was, never. Karenofbethany I really love this dress, and headpiece with the coat - i prefer the cloak open, a lovely costume!!! I think the two pieces are lovely on their own but shouldn't be put together mary_bess_Edward The dress underneath is nice but a bit dull. They should have made it more exciting if they were going to have such a neutral colour for the gown. The cloak had the potential of being good but the fan effect of the collar ruins it for me. I really love the fasteners. Not sure about the ruffed sleeves either, they just seem random to the outfit. fleur_de_lis |
  Episode 1:4   Episode 1:8 | This dress is beautiful. The bodice is amazing and is finished off well with the broach. I also love the crisscross pattern on the skirt. I also love the style of the coat and the material. The colours are all the perfect shades of purple for her so she doesn't look ridiculous but rather regal. amore_angel I've always liked this dress. The color of royalty, purple, looks perfect of Katherine! The brooch on the corset top is the perfect accessory, simple but noticeable.-LNor19 I love Katherine's dress here. The colour is beautiful. As LNor said the royal colour looks just perfect on Katherine Her hair piece is beautiful as well. *Coronation* The dress is gorgeous, the lilac is so beautiful and suits Maria well. I love the pattern on the corset and how it is balanced out with a plain patterned skirt to keep it tasteful. I love the coat but think it would have been better as a jacket which she looks like she's wearing in the fourth picture. The texture looks soft and luxurious and i love the pleating touches on it. In full form the coat looks a little too heavy and full and she looks a little drowned in it. fleur_de_lis Wow, everything is just right.     at her nephew's feast-Episode 1:3 | I think this is the same dress from 1:6 and it looks much better here. She looks beautiful, the pale gold colour suits her so well. And the coat suits it so better rather than clashing or making it look gaudy like it did above. amore_angel MDK looks stunning here - VivatAnne1536 I liked this dress the colours in it compliment Maria's fair complexion love the headpiece as well. ~coronation I think this coat compliment the dress much better than the one she wore with it 2 dresses above. I also love it when Maria wears her hair down! - offwithherhead Amore i think it is the same dress and she does look much better wearing it here. I think its because the dress and the coat are similar colours and don't class as much as it did with the red coat. The simple pattern of the coat really brings this dress together and the gold effect makes her look very regal. I alsolove the fur (?) trimmings around it which puts some life into the outfit without taking away from it. fleur_de_lis She looks lovely here!!  Episode 1:5 The Joust-Episode 1:4   | Comments: This combination of black and gold works much better than the promotional shot. Its so light and flowing. I love the sort of 'v' neck of the collar and the loose sleves. The gold pattern on the skirt is beautiful. The pearl earrings finish it off perfectly. amore_angel Katherine wears the combination of black and gold very well. And I love the sleeves on this dress, as well as her French hood/bag snood.-LNor19 An amazing dress, probably my favourite Katherine dress. The colours compliment each other well. The cut of the neckline is inspired and i love the lace that covers her cleavage. The gold leaf effect on the front and around the sleeves really is genius. I also love how the two materials work, with the velvet bust and lacy skirt. The empire waistline was really used well here. The discreet jewels of pearls and an emerald finishes it nicely. I also love the lacy sleeves. fleur_de_lis Lovely dress but the accompanying headpiece at the joust is awful! - VivatAnne1536 I think that dress is so beautiful,so medieval i love it!-Jes89 I don't think Katherine ever wore a french hood, but I could be wrong. Nevertheless, the costumes - all of them - are magnificent and so meticulously put together, the fabrics are scrumptious.  Episode 1:8 Episode 1:2   | I don't think this dress is very flattering. Its looks very heavy in the middle, the colour is plain and the fabric is uninspiring. I think it looks nice in the lower right picture but not the others. The panels in the middle put me off it too. I love the tiara in the top picture though. amore_angel agree KOB Maria totally rocked this scene!! The colour of the dress is really pretty I like her necklace and her hairpiece too. ~coronation I agree that this dress is beautiful, but I think the color of it is too muted for Maria. I think Maria looks better in bolder colors. - offwithherhead -Look at the dignity and composure on her face and in her bearing as she withstands a celebration for Henry's illegitimate son! The crown is awesome! KOB This dress is hideous. The colour is drab, the white things on the upper half are distracting and the flaps around the waist are very unflattering mary_bess_edward I think that if was smoother and more streamlined the dress would have worked better. However they had to give her little flaps around her waist which are distracting and in my mind, unnecessary. Other than that it is a nice dress. The colour is a little dull but the clusters of pearls on the corset brings some needed pattern. fleur_de_lis |
  1.9  | I love the Spanish feeling to this dress. Another perfect example of how she makes black and gold look so good. The fitting is perfect and the threading pattern on the bodice is stunning. I prefer the top picture's headpiece because it continues the Spanish theme and the black veil goes better than a white veil. amore_angel Love this dress! She looks so elegant in black but the pattern on the corset top brings something to it so it's not all sombre and boring. I prefer the headpiece and veil in the second and third picture, as it makes her look more Spanish. mary_bess_edward |
   Episode 1:6 | I think she is the only one who could get away with wearing such a swirl of colours. If i saw this on someone else i think i'd hate it but it looks so good on her. I love the four pearls which act like buttons to keep that simple class with it. It goes really well with the black coat and the choker. amore_angel I love this dress and want it badly!!! The pattern is elegant with swirls of gold, red, and a forest green. The pearls beaded down the center of the dress are lovely, and once again, the black and gold scheme suits Katherine.-LNor19 I love the top part of the dress but because the pattern is so colourful and loud they should have limited it to the corset and perhaps have given her a dark skirt. I also love the pearls and rubies but think they should have eliminated the last set so it just covered the corset and not go into the skirt. The neckline is flattering though and i love the added stones. fleur_de_lis She looks like a goddess. All of that is tedious embroidery and piece work, the likes of which we will never see again.   Katherine with her nephew Charles V | I love the dress as i mentioned above, and i really like coat except maybe the sleeves are a bit too full and heavy when seeing it in full. But i love the stipes on the sleeve and the colour of it is so rich. amore_angel The dress looks much better here and the pattern which i said looked a bit too much looks a lot more toned down here perhaps because it is rivalling with richer colours. The red of the coat is gorgeous but the striped sleeves looks a little odd in where they start and where they finish. I think a coat of pure red would have looked much better but it is still a beautiful outfit. fleur_de_lis Ahh! Loved this dress.  | The mixture of colours in the coat put me off the outfit, alongside that huge feather on her headpiece. The coat might have looked better if it didn't have that red/orange part of the pattern ehich just seems so odd and isolated with the greys, blues and creamy colours. fleur_de_lis |

she will be so missed. My heart aches when I see MDK in these clothes. Her meeting with Mendoza was my favorite costume, and I love the black veils. I could dress like that everyday, if I had somewhere to go. She looks so good and believable at the end, when her pregnancy really did show., But it fit into my vision, of an aging, heartbroken Katherine. I hope she acts again. I'm glad to hear their are still fresh flowers on her grave. Did MDK visit her grave prior to the shooting of the Tudors?

I think she looks wonderful in all her dressies,and all the hair pieces and ect,where out of this world. Like i said before i love to see movies from this era.
