| Children's Clothing of the 16th Century. (Portraits from 1501-1599) German and Dutch Left Children from c.1517. Center is a girl c.1535-45. Right, Catherine van Arckel of Ammerdozen, Italy and Spain Center: Italian Baby c.1545 Right: Infantas Isabella and Catalina Micaela of Spain c.1571 France and England | To the right is assumed to be a portrait of Mary as a child, but some scholars disagree. The young woman in the portrait seems to be wearing French fashions, while they believe Mary would more likely have worn a gable hood. In the first row are the actors who personify the people in the second row, they too opposite of each other, the "Dauphin of France" and the Princess Mary. |
