Am I The Only Male on This Site?
"I'm a huge fan of drama's and serial dramas. I think The Tudors is one of the best shows on television right now but I feel like I'm the only man who enjoys this show. None of my close friends watch it, and it seems like these boards are full of women lusting after Jonathan Rhys Meyers. What I want to know is if there are any other guys who are really into this show and on these boards. I feel like purple dot on a yellow wall. LOL!
I'd also like to know if I'm the only one that is hoping the show continues on even after Henry has died. I find the stories of Edward, Mary, and Elizabeth particularly fascinating and would love to see The Tudors take them on. I actually had what I thought was a great idea for the final scene in The Tudors. It's near the end of the post but you can read it on my blog. http://scottrocks123.wordpress.com/2008/05/20/finales-for-great-shows. Give me your thoughts on my idea!" Hi scottjarvis123! There are some male users on this wiki, but you're right in that it is female dominated for the most part. Hopefully that will change because there's plenty for men to enjoy in this series as well as women! One of my male friends watches the series and was a BIG Katherine of Aragon fan after he visited her childhood home, the Alhambra castle in Granada, Spain. It was actually to his credit that I started watching the series because I have been a long time Tudor history fanatic but was hestiant at first to watch the Showtime series. So it's thanks to a male that I am a fan of "The Tudors"! You are definately not alone in hoping for the continance of the series after Henry VIII's passing. MsSquirely has recently posted an interview with series creator Michael Hirst on the "Tudors in the Media" page. Hirst not only wants to continue telling Henry's story for a total of five seasons but he also wants to delve into the reigns of Edward and Mary (thus the series name, "The TudorS"). There's also a thread on the five seasons of Henry entitled "Five Seasons!" where there's even more discussion on plans for the coming seasons.

Re Alison Weir's comments
i can understand Weir's dismay. I have just finished her "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" and I was looking at her notes and bibliography. Weir is very thorough. Each of her chapters has a corresonding section of sources in the back of the book. Her bibliograph is extensive. Even the photos she uses are cited as to origin. Although the book is written in the style of a popular biography, (meaning readable and interesting to the average person, vs the scholar - not a bad thing because people who would not read a biography couched in scholarly jargon will read the book and learn about the period) it was thoroughly researched and her sources cited. Weir uses both primary sources (i.e. The Spanish Calendar and the dispatches of Eustache Chapuys) and secondary sources (Authors of other biographies). Nevertheless this series should be enjoyed just for what it is, a royal soap opera, just as one would enjoy a novel about the period for its ability to transport us to another time and place. In some cases both ot these media lead us as they did me to research nonfiction sources for a truer picture of the period. One could for example, even research the dress of the period (an interesting study in itself) to check for historical accuracy in movie costumes. Obviously costumes were also a part of Weir's research. She certainly did her work.

Does anyone know
Hi!
I'm french so please excuse my bad english... My question is the following: does anyone know where I could find the classical pieces which are played in each episode of "The Tudors", for example those that were composed by thomas tallis or william byrd (maybe)?... I have searched in sites such as "heard on tv" but didn't get any answer...Thanks for your answer..

New Members Introduce yourself here
Hi CHG2 and welcome to the Wiki. Although I maybe a moderator, I am just a tudors fan like everyone else and have no special affiliation with the series. The series creator and writer has said ( and you can read interviews with him and others on the "the Tudors in the media" page) that his mandate was not to do another materspiece "type" of series because its already been done several times and quite well. This is a soap opera in a historical setting. Hence the reason he has taken dramatic license with the some elements of the story.
As to the Margaret/Mary amalgmation...I have to admit it was one thing that really annoyed me too. But this is what Michael Hurst said about that : "I didn't want two Princess Marys on the call sheet," he said, because it might have confused the crew. " `Which one do you mean, Michael? Who do we dress?' ''. So it seems it wasn't done for us, the audience but for the crew who seem to have a problem when there are two people with the same name. Honestly I think they could have worked some kind of solution for this but....well they didn't. Despite this and a couple of other glaring things....like William Brereton ...being made into a potential assassin of Anne Boleyn....I think it has happily brought a resurgence of interest in the Tudors...to find out the truth.

How do you correct the historical inaccuracies?
"I have heard that they are only going to go through the Six wives of Henry in the series. It is supposed to end after that. I would like it to go on to Elizabeth the last of the Tudors, but I really don't think it will, that is probably why they don't really care about the time line or important historical characters in the future. " Series creator Micheal Hirst recently said in an interview that he would like the series to continue after the death of Henry VIII and cover the reigns of his children (if audience ratings indicated there was demand for it). Also, Hirst spoke of the possibility of going back in time to cover the reign of Henry's father, Henry VII! The interview is posted on the Tudors in the Media page.

Season 3: New Cast, New Characters (spoilers!)
I hope Sarah Bolger will return too but maybe they will get an older actress.
Regarding the seasons..here is a quote from a recent interview (july 18) with showtime's Greenblatt (on "the Tudors in the media" page here on the wiki) :
"This afternoon at the Television Critics Association press tour, Showtime's President of Entertainment Robert Greenblatt was asked how long The Tudors might last for. Said Greenblatt, "I think there's another two years in it."
Henry VIII had six wives and the first two seasons used those marriages as season-long story arcs, with each season focused on one wife each – Katherine of Aragon in Season 1 and Anne Boleyn in Season 2. However, Greenblatt noted that the one wife per season rule will change and that, "The next season is Anne of Cleves and Jane Seymour," and that it's likely Season 4, "will be the final two wives," with the series probably coming to an end there. "

Have you seen the pic of Anne getting ready get beheaded
If you read the page "The Tudors - in the media". you will see that the writer and Jonathan Rhys Meyers do talk about that. I think they are just taking it one season at a time but they do both mention that it would be good to see him age.

Hello "lady" mary!
I'm so stoked that Sarah Bolger has been cast as the teenage Mary Tudor! She's a top notch actress with the beauty and brains to boot. I loved her performances in "In America" and "Spiderwick", it was actually the later that made me think she would be really good in either a period drama or a pirate flick. Now I see she's going to be in season 2 of the Tudors and I'm so excited to see her as Mary, I'm sure she will knock our socks off! Her last role in Spiderwick was very independent, determined, loyal, saucy, all the qualities I envision a teenage Mary Tudor to be during the Anne Boleyn - Jane Seymour years.
Perfect casting decision, I applaud.

Will Henry's antics in the bedroom continue?
"Will Henry's antics in the bedroom continue outside of his current wife's (whichever one it is, lol) chambers in Season 3?" I assume you are referring to Henry the actor, not the character, king Henry. The actor, Henry Cavill, has the best looks. Finally a actor who is naturely good looking. No shaved chest or legs, no Tatoos. A good body, not overly pumped up. Also, an excellent actor. Most of the young actors want to be"Bad boys". Why the fans, studios and media cater to them is beyond me. Please more Henry Cavills.

How will Henry handle Jane's death in Season 3?
"It has been said that the first half of Season 3 will have Jane in it. As for when Anne of Cleves comes in, I'm guessing an episode or 2 after that." Looks like it will be two more seasons with two wives in each. Check out this news article which I just posted on "The Tudors in the Media" page:
