*possibly based on an amalgamation of the historical characters of the Emisssary Sir John Hutton and
Sir Nicholas Wotton, (1497-1567) the English Ambassador who was sent to Cleves to arrange the marriage and brought the royal bride back to England. (Retha Warnicke's The Marrying of Anne Cleves)
