Straight off I confess my ignorance of facts. I know there have been kings who have been murdered and sent into exile, etc. Somebody will name them here. My curiosity is regarding what did it take to bring a King to justice? It seems as if, once enthroned, kings could get away with any manner of things. Was the argument that they were "divinely anointed?" Look how Henry manipulated/changed the law, how many people he had killed, what he got away with ,,, and lived to a reasonably ripe age for his time doing exactly what he wanted.
Fast forward to the current age - divorce still being a big issue until Charles and Diana did it. What would Henry VIII, or Elizabeth I, or Victoria, or Elizabeth II have to do to be de-throned?

Henry was a mastermind with the military! He LOVED ships and he greatly improved all aspects of the English Military...
Pope Clement was having problems with Henry because of Anne/Katherine issue then Pope Paul inherited those problems so there was 'bad blood' between Paul and Henry from the first. When Henry decided to start the Reformation DO YOU THINK that Spain or France WOULD have invaded England for the Pope and Church OR did the MAJOR improvements that he made make Charles and Francis think twice about action against England?? What o YOU think?? Pope Paul was big on reform in the Church he even expelled 'dissidents' from communities to protect the Catholic Community. The Jesuits (I believe was his idea) With Charles being Holy Roman Emperor AND Aunt Katherine a devout Catholic crown being threatned. WHY did NO ONE try to invade England?? Henry VII severly weakened the English Military so at that time it was believed that Spain had the might to attempt invasion of England. So Henry VII's improvements MUST have been a BIG deal.... Pope Paul and the Church MUST have wanted aggressive action taken at some point. An Elizabeth had a keen military mind as well, Without the improvements that she and her father made in the military thenPhillip II would have most likely helped put Mary Queen of Scots on the English throne. The Spanish Armada during Elizabeth's time was legend! And Pope Sixtus was willing to PAY Phillip( or was it Ferdinand) around a million dollars to attack England! So the strength of the military helped the Reformation be a little less bloddy...well, on the international end...not Henry's end! I would love some input on this THANKS |
