Mary and Elizabeth
I think that Mary was always very fond of Elizabeth, at least until she became Queen and began to fear her successor. Her marriage to Philip of Spain was unpopular with the people and some were looking to Elizabeth as the focus of their opposition. I sometimes wonder if Mary was afraid of history repeating itself; that Elizabeth would follow in her mother's footsteps and usurp Mary's throne, as Anne had Katherine's. As Henry's love for Anne was a threat to Katherine, Elizabeth's popularity with the people was a threat to Mary and I think that she was very conscious of that.
As well as that, religious issues played a part. Mary wanted to restore Catholicism to England and I think that, had Elizabeth converted, Mary would have rested much easier and been much happier. As it stood, she was probably aware that whatever she did to restore the Catholic Church when she was Queen, Elizabeth could undo when she succeeded her and, once it became clear that Mary wasn't going to have a child, Elizabeth's succession became almost a certainty.
When Mary was younger, serving as one of little Elizabeth's attendants, she was in a very lonely position, forbidden to communicate with her mother and practically ignored by her father. She was also at an age when, under other circumstances, she would have been married, possibly with a child of her own so I think that, in some ways, Elizabeth, young enough to be her daughter rather than her sister, filled a void left by both the family she had lost and the family she would never have.

Which Queen would you be?
I got Katherine of Aragon on the quiz...followed by Anne Boleyn.
Just posted another link to another quiz on that site: Which Tudor Queen are you? It includes the wives and children of Henry VIII. I was Elizabeth I on that :-D

Elizabeth I- a Virgin or Not.......your thoughts
Yes, I believe Elizabeth died a virgin.
It's hard for people to understand today, but being a former student of Psychology I know that psychological factors can entirely override sexual desire for an entire lifetime. And let's be honest, Liz must have had quite a few issues tallied up - the deaths of her mother and stepmother, the Seymour liason, etc etc. "Affection is false." We know that Elizabeth never married - would she have considered sex before marriage?
I hold fast to the belief that Elizabeth was a Queen before she was a woman.
I'll just echo the age-old line: I guess we'll never know!

Mary, Queen of Scots, a new movie
Ok. so now I definitely don't think it is supposed to be based on Frasier's book, it does not give any credits to her on the IMDB page. But...it says it is supposed on concentrate on her conflict with Elizabeth.
Hmm. Scarlett's a little young to be playing Mary in the 1580s.
