I didn't know much about Mary Boleyn, until I watched "The Other Boleyn Girl" last night. I felt so sorry for her as she was portrayed as someone who was in love with her husband, but her family forced her to go after Henry after falling for Anne initially failed. She then falls in love with Henry and Anne is jealous and seething when she sees Henry fall for her sister instead. Despite Anne's cruelty to her when she lures Henry away from her after Mary falls pregnant, Mary still supports Anne and "lies" for her about Anne's ex lover.
Does anyone know if any of this is true? Did Mary really love Henry? Did Henry love her? Was Anne jealous that Henry fell for her sister?

Is this real? I found a link to this while I was doing the random internet research I usually get into. It was in a thread on a Philippa Gregory readers' group site. If it's true it will be pretty amazing.

I think its about time there was a discussion on mary. How they made her out in the show was so very wrong. She was a huge piece of anne's life no matter what book you read. I was very disappointed with how she was the kings mistress for like what an episode and then they never showed her again?

Well i must add this because i did not like the way mary boleyn was portrayed, i know the show "the tudors" is a modern take on the actual tudor era but i have to disagree with her portrayal especially in the second season. Okay so she was meant to have had blonde hair and been most likely a little plumper...but the main thing for me was her conversation with mark smeaton in episode two of season two
the style was most unconventional and consdering that women were granted extremely little liberties, i doubt she would have been allowed to or been able to act upon what she was saying to the musician so freely. Example when mark asked about her late husband Carey, she apeared as though she did not miss him atall, and furthermore went on to say and laugh that he was impotent. where were her two children? wasnt mary supposed to be very maternal? i know she was no clean maiden, but the loose living casual wench in the show is far from beleivable as she would have been under strict rule in the court and being a woman!!! She went on then to say that she was looking forward to riding or playing with a handsome french stallion to which smeaton replied "So am i" so we get the impression that mark smeaton is "Gay" which we know is not evidentially true and i do certinaly beleive that this topic of conversation would not have been permitted, even in France and the french court. thats just my views from what i have read about life in sixteenth century european history

I could not believe how awful Anne and her father were towards Mary Boleyn...I can tell Anne did not wanted to do this to her sister but she was force by her fathers comments and it was so sad how Mary kept calling her sister please... having sisters myself and having a good relationship with them I can not imagine having any of them vanished from my life. And I did not get Anne not been happy for her sisters happiness since at the end both Mary and Anne were used by their father for advancement Anne should have been more understanding of her sister.
