The article above makes a very good point that Henry might have suffered from diabetes; however many of the facts it states in its argument are not correct.

There are two different kinds of diabetes, and the origin and pathophysiology of both are *completely* different. The article links to a website about Type 1 Diabetes, which is a disease of wasting due to body cells' inability to absorb sugar from the blood to make energy. It is very possible that people in his family may have suffered this, especially if they were constantly thirsty (a classic symptom of Type 1); HOWEVER, Type 1 diabetics who are not treated with insulin (as they obviously weren't in that period) are very very VERY unlikely to EVER get fat because in Type 1 the body is constantly breaking down fat as a last resort to get energy (since cells cannot get that energy from its usual source, sugar). As a result, they often die young. Also, Type 1 diabetes does not have a strong genetic predisposition, so you won't see it "running in families."

Type 2, on the other hand, *is* what I believe Henry VIII might have suffered from. Type 2 Diabetes is a syndrome of *resistance* to insulin (the hormone that causes cells to absorb sugar for energy) that usually occurs BECAUSE of increased body weight. However, because cells still retain the ability to absorb some sugar, sufferers don't waste away like Type 1 diabetics do. That said, the increased body sugar destroys blood vessels over time, leading to other symptoms classic of Type 2 such as non-healing wounds and infections (Henry's leg!!), blurred vision, neuropathy, kidney failure, etc. Also, Type 2 has a much stronger genetic predisposition than Type 1 does.

As far as Henry goes it is true and that is the way it was in the day, but just like today some horrid people are in power. And there wasn't a fairy tale time...even though we were all told it was it wasn't it was real life and Anne was no angel I'm sure of it. It is hard for me to feel for her...she was a golddigger and she made no bones about it...Katherine didn't have a chance. I think that had a lot to do with why he had her beheaded. He woke up and realized what kind of woman she really was...don't forget all these people were all out for power. I think Anne got her attitude from her power hungry family...but, I don't doubt she was as innosent as alot has tried to portray...she was groomed to be married to someone she didn't really didn't Love it was all about the power. Being Born King and/or Queen you were raised to marry well. So you were spoiled rotten and clueless about how the real world was. Peasents were scum of the earth and were treated that way. you are living in a fairy tale world if you think differently. All of the fairytales, we all made from these day's and times...but they wanted everyone to believe everyone lived life like a fairytale and that is the way it was. Just like the Cathalic church wanted to make up there own translation of the Bible and keep all the people nieve and innosent. it's called Control of your situation. Why gypsies and mentrals etc. were such free spirits and made up there own beleifs. If you look at history with the real prespective and realize that it was a totally differnt time and our world was so very young...that it has been that way since the beginning of time. and I am glad that someone else know's that.
