Watch
I am very new viewer of The Tudors. I have currently only watched Season 1 Episode 1 and 2, and I have a question about Episode 2 in regard to Buckingham's Trial.
So, the setup: Buckingham is arrested for treason. Wosley advises the King not to convict for treason, but some lesser crime and the King agrees; Wosley will coordinate it. The King then sends Charles Brandon to Norfolk to remind him of his duties to the King. There is no indication in this scene that Wolsey's direction for the trial is being usurped, just that the King wants Norfolk to remember where his loyalties should be. In fact, when the King tells Brandon to talk to Norfolk, he tells him that Wolsey was setting up the trail with Norfolk presiding. The confusion: At the trail, Norfolk finds Buckingham guilty of treason and he is executed. What happened? It is not explained why the original course of Wolsey's plan for the trial was disrupted and by whose influence. Wolsey seemed surprised at the trail by the verdict, but the King's reaction is never shown. Can someone fill me in on what I missed? Or, do I just need to keep watching to have this question answered? Thank you!
