RE: Charles Brandon's Hatred of Anne Boleyn

"Historically, I suspect Charles Brandon hated Anne Boleyn for one major reason: if Henry VIII died without a male heir, Charles and Mary's son, Henry Brandon, Earl of Lincoln, might have been named by his uncle Henry as his successor. The Duke of Suffolk would have lost that power base if Anne had borne Henry a son.
By the way, Charles and Mary's son was betrothed to Catherine Willoughby, but Charles married her after Mary's death, because his son was terminally ill, and the Duke of Suffolk's finances weren't too robust, either. " I don't think he hated her because she would take away his son's chance at the throne. He supported the divorce initially like many other people (even Reginald Pole I read). I think everyone just wanted the King to finally have a son and KoA wasn't providing one. Then sometime later it became clear that Henry was serious about marrying Anne Boleyn of all people when he got his divorce and a lot of people started to turn cold on the whole divorce thing. I think historically he started hating her then and for the same reason why everyone else started hating her (even her own uncle). Because she was behaving rashly to everyone and wasn't exactly making friends. I read that she threatened Henry Guildford (a close friend of Henry's), telling him she would have his head, once she was Queen! She made a lot of people, who initially supported Henry's divorce turn away from it that way. As far as Brandon goes, his wife hated Anne Boleyn with a passion, because she was close friends with KoA. So the guy might have had some personal conflict about the whole Anne Boleyn thing, what with his wife hating her and Henry loving her and him being close to both of them.
