Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk

Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk as played by Henry Cavill

born c. 1484 - died August 22, 1545

Character's backstory:
His father was William Brandon, Henry VII's standard bearer at Bosworth Field in 1485 & was reportedly killed by Richard III himself. His mother died in childbirth and, upon his grandfather's death in 1491, the orphaned boy went to the royal court. This was the custom of the time but since Brandon was not heir to an important title or great wealth, his case was decided more on sentiment. He had a claim on Henry Tudor's affections since his father had died in his service. That demonstration of loyalty at Bosworth meant a great deal to the first Tudor king. Since Charles was just two years older than Henry's first son, Prince Arthur, it is probable that they were playmates. Though seven years older than King Henry VIII, Charles shared his most prominent characteristics - natural athleticism, robust physical health (unlike the delicate Arthur), and a devotion to all sports (wrestling, hunting, tilting and jousting, etc.) During these adolescent years, the two boys laid the foundation for a lifelong friendship. Brandon was perhaps the only person in England who had successfully retained Henry VIII's affection for over 40 turbulent years.

*In season 3 of the series Brandon is shown as doing many of the actions of Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk with regard to the Pilgrimage of the Grace and putting forward Katherine Howard. Norfolk has not appeared since season 1.

It is very typical for soldiers to be very mentally distressed after returning from war. It is the SOP that all soldiers attend debriefing so that it will "ease" their transition into everyday life.

Unfortunately these damaged souls will present with disturbing behavior such as attacking their wives in their sleep, hallucinating, and become very easy to startle. (These are just to name a few.)

I sympathize HEAVLY with what mental issues Brandon is suffering. It is hard to experience and to witness it in someone you know.

I know this might be a delicate topic considering there are probably veterans and military wives in the crowd, but I would love some feedback on this topic.

Yeah I know he looks good but is this guy getting on anyone else's nerves? Season 1 he's mad at Woley(for gawd knows what reason) and he dies. Then in season 2 he turns against the Boleyns and calls Anne a whore for gawd knows what reason and then she dies. Now in season three he is going to be hating on Cromwell(atleast we know where this hatred comes from) and he is going to die. What is up with this dude?!? He's trying to take out anyone who is close to Henry, I bet in season 4 he is going to plot with Cranmer and the Seymours to take down Catherine Howard.

Someone explain please what is happening in the Season III promo between Brandon, Cromwell and the King...? I get the impression Brandon doesn't want to be involved in killing the pilgrims - that Henry gets mad, etc., I don't recall reading any of this? Scholars, come forward! Is this real or is it a new Producer's Plot?
