once again I need Ms Squirrly to help me add this, as I couldn't place it at the end of the list. Can you rework my addition, as I just never seem to be able to do photos and words!
Also this thread will cost me a fortune. I own some of these books, but now I want to just go to Amazon, and buy all of the others. I have no money, at all, and a library of my own, so I must own them. Books are my most prized possessions. However, I am losing my house, and the library too, so I can't be naughty and buy anything, especially since my daughter just got engaged, and somehow we have to give her a wedding.

this is an unusal pick as it is an adaptation of the story of the great love of Katherine synford and john of Gaunt. This book is the best book I ever read. This is how I got interested in Tudor history, however it takes place in the 19th century. I can't recommend it enough. Over 1100 pages, a five day read. Don't plan eating or sleeping, as you can not put it down. Go to Amazon for reviews,
Here is one 22 of 23 people found the following review helpful: 5.0 out of 5 stars Continuation of Cashelmara with another family ..., August 7, 2000 By A Customer This review is from: Wheel of Fortune (Mass Market Paperback) I love English history and I love historical novels, so I adore Susan Howatch's books, and The Wheel of Fortune is my favorite. The only thing to add to the overwhelmingly positive reviews written before me is to answer the question in the first review: the book is a continuation of the story told in Cashelmara, recast with a different family. Cashelmara is based on the story of Edward I, Edward II, and Edward III, ending as Edward III overthrows his mother's lover and claims the throne as his own. The Wheel of Fortune picks up the same story about half way through Edward III's life (he is now Bobby Godwin), and follows the story through the life of his sons Edward The Black Prince (Robert), John (John of Gaunt) and Thomas (Thomas of Woodstock), his grandsons Kester (Richard II) and Harry (Henry IV), and his great grandson Henry V (Hal).

I find a synopsis such a good idea. I didn't know you were a grad student Semper. I just am finishing Alison Weir's Six Wives of Henry the Eighth. What I do is date all the books I buy, and then a short blurb about what is happening at that time. For example, I read a book in October, and I noted the stock market fell apart, and it is like the end of the world. When I reread a book, I put the date of the reread.
I would like to recommend Susan Howatch, who is a very famous author, who writes about historical persons, Tudors especially, in a different time setting. My favorite novel is Wheel of Fortune, which is about the famous love affair between John of Gaunt, and Katherine Swyneford. I think she is the best author I have ever read. She holds a chair at Cambridge U in theology, as she is a born again Anglo Catholic. She also holds a law degree, and has written about 20 novels, most being best sellers. Oh, I have picked up a strange habit, I have been reading 2 books at the same time. I keep one by my bed, and one in the library. (the Tudor Library!) I never thought of reading 2 at once, but I started to do it recently.

What was your favorite book about any of the Tudors? I have read many and I would have to say I really enjoyed Lady in the Tower and the Autobiography of Henry VIII with Notes from Will Somers.

With all the exciting new histories and biographies coming out on our beloved Tudors, I figured I'd start a thread to post announcements, reviews, links relating to new book we might find intersting
Susan Doran, who's written an edited several books on Elizabeth I, is co-author of the upcoming "Tudors and Stuarts on Film: Historical Perspectives" which sounds right up our alley, since we love our film adaptations and discussing them. http://www.amazon.com/dp/1403940711?tag=tudorhistory-20&camp=14573&creative=327641&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=1403940711&adid=1JAYNS3C090KCSDGW9EP&

Im actually just curious for the tudor lovers, do you feel an author of a NON fiction book can be completley unbiased ? I watcfhed an interview by the guy who did John Adams and he made a statement that authors usually write because of their own love or interest in a person or time and sometimes that can be hard to stay unbiased.
Of the tudor books who do you really believe to be the most unbiased....and the most biased ?

For those who like to read biographies in form of a novel I can recommend Margaret George's 'The Autobiography of Henry VIII'. It is a weighty tome but it's really good and one of my favourite books. It is written as Henry's Diary and makes it easier to understand him and his actions...and you can immerse yourself in the Tudor time because Margaret George did a real good job. Her characters are human and the atmosphere is authentic, you can see all the people and places in the mind's eye.

I would love to know what my wiki friends are reading right now and why. Also, are you reading more than one book at a time? What book would you be excited to recommend to us? Where do you usually purchase your books? How many books do you have on Tudor information? In my life, if you can't find a friend, you can always turn to a book; they never fail!"

It would be nice to have fans contribute favorite books, articles, reviews, novels, films, documentaries on the Tudor reign to build a bibliography for those interested in seeing where historical truth--such as we can determine--resides. Just specify if books are fiction or non-fiction.

Hey everyone...so I have access to several major university libraries and am wondering what you suggest to start with? I saw the books on the list but there seem to be only a couple and would like to know if there are any I could start with that are not on the list. I have already printed out what they have by Weir so i may start there but am up for suggestions.

I like ALL the authors listed in the library some It takes me awhile to read Some I love, some JUST CRAZY about. A few,Like Gregory do tend to add their own history as they see it. BUT each person has a different like and dislike and individual ways to view ALL things.. ANY history lover would I am sure keep an open mind and USE what they have read from each bookand gain their own images of Tudor England. There ARE so few books from the Tudor Era WHERE I LIVE! So I tend to get EVERY ONE that I can get my hands on.BECAUSE what I am in the mood for today I may NOT be in the mood for tommorow. There are always books on CIvil War, WWII, etc. and any part of OUR shared history of the world is unique to me and to be TREASURED especially the Period Eras (such as Tudor Era, etc) I have studied and taught) History for OVER 20 years and I WAS so HAPPY that Micheal Hirst created Elizabeth and The TUDORS because that Tudor Era has ALWAYS been VERY special to me and MANY others. BEFORE Mr. Hirst it was HARD to find a good Tudor Novel OR the Non fiction left so much out OR the great Non fiction was out of print OR very rare.COLLECT THEM ALL! I assure you someday you WILL read them ALL, EVEN if you dont like a certain author sometimes you just want a TASTE of HISTORY in ANY shape or form!
