What else you should know about me:
I'm a 22-year-old English introvert with a passion for art, photography, and history. As well as the Tudor/Elizabethan era, I am also fascinated by Ancient Rome, especially the Julio-Claudian dynasty. I was raised Church of England but am now an atheist.
Favourite wife is Anne Boleyn.
I guess I should write a bit here about how I got into my obsession with the Tudor dynasty. When I was a little girl, my mum used to sit down with me and watch VHS copies of the 70's BBC productions, 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII' (with Keith Michell) and 'Elizabeth R' (with Glenda Jackson). I remember being utterly captivated and longed to know more about this intriguing period in history.
I continue to learn more and more about 16th century England each day, out of pure interest and passion. I have a tattoo of the Tudor Rose on my stomach - the design I drew myself, as I am an avid artist as well as aspiring historian.
I may be young, but my few years have been filled with the pursuit of knowledge and the acquisition of intellect. Don't judge me on my generation.
I admire:
Anne Boleyn
Well, what can I say? It's hard not to be drawn to her and fascinated by her story. I've been interested in Anne ever since I was a child and she has always been my favourite of the wives. "A woman in her own right—taken on her own terms in a man’s world; a woman who mobilized her education, her style and her presence to outweigh the disadvantages of her sex; of only moderate good looks, but taking a court and a king by storm. Perhaps, in the end, it is Thomas Cromwell’s assessment that comes nearest: intelligence, spirit and courage." (Eric Ives)
Elizabeth I
Declared illegitimate, the bastard child of a disgraced "wh0re", yet so loved by the people and one of the greatest monarchs ever to rule England. "She is only a woman, only mistress of half an island, and yet she makes herself feared by Spain, by France, by the Empire, by all" (Pope Sixtus V)
Anne of Cleves
A wise lady who managed to keep her head, and arguably the wife that got the best deal! A good friend to the King's children and was beloved by the English people. "A lady of right commendable regard, courteous, gentle, a good housekeeper and very bountiful to her servants." (Ralph Holinshed)
Katherine Parr
Ahead of her time, very intelligent with a strong character, and a published writer, she loved all of the royal children and especially influenced Elizabeth's upbringing. "Never a wife more agreeable to his heart." (Thomas Wriothesley)
and I also love Richard the Third!!! Steadfast, practical, and courageous.... much wronged by the likes of More and Shakespeare (And don't give me that 'princes in the Tower' crap, it's a bad idea to lecture an avid Ricardian)
